Title: Sex in the Water
Post by: PTLW78 on August 04, 2008, 07:20:29 pm
Dear Experts

I visited a massage parlour 2 weeks ago and went directly into a jacuzzi with a girl of unknown status. We french kissed for a while and she proceeded to put me on a condom. We had protected vaginal sex in the water for about 2 minutes, but I was concerned that the condom could slip off and decided to get out of the jacuzzi. We then continued to have protected vaginal sex outside the tube for another 2 minutes, but the feeling of a wet condom was still bugging me and I asked the girl to remove the condom and finish me off manually, which she did. The condom did not slip off and it did not break.

I was pretty comfortable and not concerned with the episode, but today, when casually reading a magazine, I read something about condoms not being safe for water sex, due to possible substances in the water that may destroy the latex and cause the condom to fail. I performed a quick search in the web, and there seems to be a debate on the effectiveness of condoms for sex in the water.

Do you see any reason for concern here? Do you think there is a risk?

Thank you very much.

Sweetness,

If there were substances in the water that destroyed latex, they'd destroy any pathogens like HIV as well. Condoms are an effective barrier against HIV provided that they remain intact during intercourse. Believe me, you'd know if the condom ruptured.

Additionally the chlorine in the jacuzzi water, whilst not damaging to a latex condom, would certainly destroy a virus like HIV pretty much instantly.

This is not a risk situation as far as HIV is concerned and as such, you don't need to test.

Rather than spending your time searching the Internet for this stuff, you'd be better off reading our Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) and follow the links to our Lessons to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted.

Thanks.

I’ve read the lessons and I think I basically understand the transmission mechanisms, but got a little scared when reading the article in the magazine (a quite light piece on holiday destinations, advising people not to have sex in the water.. go figure). I guess inaccurate information is not only on the web, but also in mags, tv shows, etc.

Thanks again

Yup, there's inaccurate information about HIV all over the place. Fortunately we specialise in HIV information and our lessons are 100% spot on.

I'm glad we've been able to help you with this.

Be well,
