What is Low Risk?
« on: August 14, 2008, 07:46:57 pm »
Hi, I recently had protected oral sex with two sex workers. I kissed bot their lips and breats. I also fingered the one (with a hangnail on my index finger). From what I have read around the forum, this is probably a low risk exposure. However, this does not help me sleep well at night! What does one mean when one speaks of a low risk encounter? What else might I have been exposed too?

Many Thanks

Rand,

Getting a blowjob, with or without a condom, is not a risk for hiv infection.

Kissing anywhere on the body, including the mouth, is not a risk for hiv infection.

Fingering, regardless of hangnails, bitten fingernails, cuts, scrapes, whatever, is not a risk for hiv infection.

None of these things are low risk, they're NO risk.

Make sure you click on the link to the Transmission Lesson found iin our Welcome Thread so you can know how hiv is and is not transmitted. Make sure you read our posting guidelines while you're there.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple. Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

Once again, NOTHING you bring to us put you at risk for hiv infection. NO RISK.

Ann

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
