Se Habla Espanol
« on: February 28, 2008, 12:47:41 pm »

For those planning to attend AMG '08, and who want to learn a little Spanish before they get to the DF, here are a few online resources:

BBC Spanish Steps:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/
This is a 12 week course in basic conversational Spanish.  Conducted entirely online, registration required, but free.

Spanish Pod:  http://spanishpod.com/
This is a part of Praxis, an online language school.  There are several levels of membership, from free (with limited offerings) to ~$20/mo for the "full service."  Less structured than the BBC program, but they give you podcasts that you can load into an MP3 player--learning on the go.

There is nothing that says you can't use them both if you want!!

Felicitaciones--JR

More stuff:

Learn Spanish Free Online Tutorial:  http://www.studyspanish.com/freesite.htm
It says free, but it is a sales pitch for a larger language course.  Still, a potentially useful resource.

TravLang:  http://www.travlang.com/languages/
A little more basic, but they have a downloadable Spanish course on the page linked to.

Spanish vocabulary guide:  http://www.languageguide.org/espanol/
Even more basic, but they have an interesting way of presenting vocabulary.  Scroll over the word, hear the pronunciation.

Buena Suerte!   JR

Hi Mike,

I'm gonna try.  The weak-assed "stimulus measure" Congress just passed might just make it possible.  It might come at the right time.

I need to get a passport too, but that's just a matter of doing it.  I haven't checked to see if there is a fee waiver for people on disability.  Many times they are available, but not advertised.

Julio doesn't think he wants to go back just now, so he may not be coming with.  That may change.  It'll be fun, though.

Tequila: nectar of the Aztec gods:  make me do crazy things   :o  But generally harmless and very entertaining things.

You all will keep me out of trouble, right??
