I heard on the news the governor (Pence the dense) has asked the attorney general to appeal it.  But for now, wow.  I never thought it would happen here; at least not for a long, long time. 

I don't know how long people will be able to get married until the appeal process starts and they stop the marrying.  But, I think in the end, equal rights will win out.  YAY!

I was surprised, when I heard the news.  I was born here in Louisville, but grew up in Columbus, Indiana, before returning back to Louisville.  Columbus is not giving licenses to gays, claiming there is no space on form for male/male or female/female.  Across the river from me, mArriages are being performed.

Then, there was the Utah news today.  And, kentucky will have our ban taken to court in August, with the other states in our circuit--TN, MI, and OH.

What's sad is that I know someone who would have loved to get his marriage license today, but he is on SSDI and gets the Extra Help, which pays Prt A and D premiums, copy's, deductibles, and scripts are like $2.50 for generic and like $6 for brand name.  He's had cancer and other problems. 

So, if he got married, his spouses income would now count.  His partner works for the state doing highway work and makes like $50,000??  So, he would now have to pay the $100-something part b and $70-something??  Part d.  And, the 20% Medicare doesn't pay at doc offices.  And, there would be no more $6 brand name scripts.  I guess an expensive drug like cancer or ARVs would be 20% of total price? 

For those not getting extra help and on SSDI, how does that work for drugs?  You pay 20% of drug price?  Anyway, that would all end up costing them so much, so marriage would protect them in many ways, but also hurt them financially.  Still a great day, though.

I'm not on SSDI....quite yet, but the whole marriage thing is out of the question for me. Unless one feels it's a must for religious reasons I would steer clear for financial reasons. Maybe someone married would be better qualified to answer but it seems the system is the problem. Not sure how it affects ADAP eligibility for those of us here but I believe RW looks at total household income.
