Which european country does accept hiv positive doctor ?

hello,

i've been graduated as a medical doctor and hiv positive for 2 years now. i live in turkey right now and turkish citizen. i'm also specializing in psychiatry right now. after i graduate from my residency in psychiatry, i want to work in another country. but because of my HIV status i am afraid european countries won't accept me. but i don't have any information about this, does anyone inform me which countries accept hiv positive doctors? which country is more suitable for possible immigration?

Hi,
There are certainly practising HIV + Doctors in the UK , I am unsure about entry, not for HIV but for Turkish. If I was you I would do research on EEC employment web site.s . I would imagine that your HIV status would not be a bar, though I know that in the UK some DR,s have to do further training and examinations depending on where they qualified , For instance a Russian qualification would require some further study I was told by a Russian in that position. You would  do best by checking with the BMA-----British Medical Assoc, and there counter parts in anyother country.

As you know, there re 28 member states in the EU, and more than that number of countries in Europe.

There are HIV+ doctors in Switzerland and in Ireland. But I am not a doctor and don't know anything about the rules governing health care workers in either country. 

Why don't you figure out what sort of Pan-European agency might have an answer for you and start contacting some of these agencies to find the expert answer to your question.   Some sort of Medical board in Stasbourg?  Workers rights or something like that?

What about contacting UNAIDS in Geneva and seeing if someone there can refer you to the information you need.

Why don't you think about what few countries might appeal to you on more than the one criteria - "can an HIV+ doctor work there..." and then research the situation in your preferred destination.

Won't you need to be fluent in the language to work?  So won't you need some advanced preparation, if that country happens to be, let's say, Portugal, or wherever?
Maybe things like lifestyle, culture, weather, salary, benefits....

It seems to me if you are an MD, psychiatrist, you'll have some good options on the international labour market and can have more than one criteria - which country will let me work with HIV...   There just seem to be a lot of factors involved and its up to you to do the research and define what you want, where you want.

as far as i can learn, some countries don't expect you to be fluent in their language like germany. and i am also planning to spend 1 full year for studying for that. but i am not sure what are their policies about hiv status. this is what makes me worry.

i searched internet about this but i can't find satisfying answer on this topic. not just i worry about rejection, but also not being able to reach my medicine too. i don't know how hard or expensive to obtain antiretroviral drugs in europe. in turkey, it is free for everyone.

it is good idea to start sending e-mails to UNAIDS and some hospital around the europe. i am not in a hurry (still have 3 years before my graduation from psychiatry residency) but turkey is going down slowly at the moment and i am afraid, in near future it will be harder to get medicine and turkey will be in war with syria.
