Dog Goes Into Traffic to Save His Friend
« on: April 29, 2010, 12:40:26 am »
This was on the news about a year ago.  I made a recent post about God.  I consider myself agnostic.  This is an example of where I see "God"--be it animals or humans doing things to help their fellow man--or animal.  Some reports say the injured dog died, but others say it lived.  I'd like to believe it lived.

I have seen that video. It makes me cry.  It reminds me of a time when I was in the depths of despair. I was rocked with grief over Dad's passing (and lets be real, all the deaths piled into one... that is how it seems to work) and a terrible, abusive relationship. I drank too much bourbon (duh) and fell asleep, but had forgotten to fully latch the ferret cage.

I woke up, after a night quietly sobbing on the floor, to a small furry nose nudging me, then licking my face. It was Benjamin Ferret. I had no treats for him, I could not have been a playmate or company, since I was passed out on the floor. No, he licked my face because I was Friend, I was Companion, I was One Who Should Be Important. He woke me up, in more ways than one. He found a way to get out of his cage, and could have gotten into a heap of trouble. Overturning trash cans, dragging stuff around.... but instead, he came to me. He came to me and he licked me until I woke up, until I cuddled him and put him back in the cage.

Animals, and we are also animals, bring us to our real selves. They adore us, they are capable of loyalty to us and each other that would make a human blush. I pick up Zachary Taylor-Thomas ferret from the deepest sleep, and he already starts to lick his lips, to strain with his little legs and arms to get to my face for kisses. To be adored so, to be such a thrill after all these years... animals can always teach us some stuff about ourselves. That video was amazing. We should all be loved that much, by anyone or anything.

I had panic attacks on sunday, for no obvious reason. Finally it was so bad I thought it would help to put my butt directly on the soil.  I went and sat on the grass in the sun.  A HUGE dog came over to me and licked my hand and licked my head (I never had a dog do that before) and then he circled a few times in front of me and lay down right on my body.

I slowly but surely calmed down. How did he know to do this and why the generosity of spirit?

My 14 year-old dog has gotten to be like a cat in the last year or so where she just does her own thing.  Lately, she's been wanting to be right on me all the time.  I wonder whether she is seeking comfort or she believes I need comfort.  It makes me worry about her, but also wondering whether she knows something is wrong with me.

Thanks for sharing the amazing video. Very heart warming and inspiring.  :-*

I genuinely believe dogs, like dolphins, are angels sent to mankind as companion gifts. Yet, man continue to harm and abuse these precious beautiful creatures all too often. Sad.

There's not a day I don't cringe in pain when I think about my baby girl that passed almost 2 years ago. She was constantly by my side and I was truly thankful when I could be by hers when her time was up. I miss her too much.  :'(

This reminds me about my dog friends joke.

Ms. Poolers' 3rd grade class was on a field trip. As they were walking about they passed 2 dogs doing it... one humped on top of the other, just giving it.
Billy asks: "Ms. Pooler, what are those 2 dogs doing?"
She quickly thought of something... "Well you see Billy. The dog on top injured his front paw. Since they are very good friends, the other dog let his injured friend climb on top him so he could get around"

Billy then sighs and says: "Figures! Just like my dad said, a friend that tries to help another friend always ends up getting fucked!".

LOL..

What they failed to mention is the dog ate the other dog on the side of the road...  the inspiration behind his miraculous act was pure hunger.

I noticed this comment below the video-"D O G - the greatest christian on the planet spells GOD backwards"..  I guess the fucker was a sinner or something... why did God place him in the middle of a highway in Chile of all places?
