Private Medical cover in UK

Hi

Has anyone taken out a medical policy in the uk after testing Poz? I am moving from a company policy (international) to a personal one and want to understand the implicaions of being hiv positive.
Hiv and conditions resulting from HIV seem to be general exclusions on all policies. HIV itself doesnt worry me as that is dealt with by NHS so no cost to insurance but am afraid that they may try to virtually pin other ailments to be resulting from HIV rendering the policy worthless.
Any views?

I never had private medical insurance in the UK, can't help on that. I was a NHS Customer.   Perhaps you can ask the THT? They might know or at least be able to point you in the right direction  http://www.tht.org.uk/

I have private medical insurance in Ireland, not that its really needed as the HSE will treat regardless but it gives me a private room and some upgrades and I never had the insurance try and get out of a claim due to my HIV status despite having related issue.

I have always had it for the same reason..nhs will treat but to avoid long waits......did you disclose status to insurance?

Yeah they are aware of my HIV status. It never gave me any problems but that's my experience so do check with THT
