is this thing from HIV?!?!? PSA for noobs
« on: April 16, 2016, 05:32:36 pm »
easy answer... probably not

just a friendly word to those of you newly diagnosed, now that HIV is on your radar, it is tempting to lay blame for everything at it's door... that is a mistake

we're still human, we still get aches and pains, your ears will ring, your stomach will churn, you'll get rashes, fevers

all that ails humanity, you are still going to experience.... just like the negative folks

most of it has got nothing to do with HIV, it's the human condition

listen, we totally get it! fucking terrified of what is going to happen, of not knowing, worried every little thing that goes on with your body is a portent of doom

not knowing, running to google, OMG I'M DYING!!!!!

please, guys, there are a few of you recently... nothing personal, really

CALM DOWN!!!! goosfrabah or whatever zen stress relief techniques you buy into

i wish there was an easy way to tell newly diagnosed people.... take your meds, and don't think about HIV for about 6 months... two or three lab results AFTER you've started meds

then take a look, you'll be amazed...

Quite good advice. That's the philosophy I've gathered from the more experienced guys like yourself on this forum.

I'm going to do what I need to do and continue with life. You're correct; I found myself starting to worry about minuscule things. Everyone regardless of status will get a cold, might get the flu, and the aches and pains of aging. As long as we are maintaining ourselves and suppressing our virus; we should approach these issues no differently than we did before we were diagnosed.

Great post and I hope all the new guys like me read it, digest it, and practice it.

Another thing about Internet forums is that they can self select for meaningless stuff and feed hypochondriac leanings.  I've seen this in a few posts.

If I post that my right eyebrow started twitching after starting Truvada, and it's never happened before, it must be the Truvada; someone else is going to come along and say the same thing happened to them.

Add in a third person who says their uncle had something similar and it was caused by a CNS tumor and you're off to the races with posts on lots of boards about Truvada induced CNS tumors, research showing the higher likelihood of getting them if you're HIV+, how Truvada is a component of many different protocols, etc.  when in reality it was a bug bite or blood pressure issue, or any other unrelated thing.
