Hello fellow AMG 3013 attendees!
Please use this thread to post your Chicago arrival and departure information.
Please only use this thread if you will be joining us in Chicago.
AMG 2013 Chicago will be held August 8-13 at Inn of Chicago.

Our arrival times are pretty far off though, first round Wolfter, Henry, and I will be there by like 11:30, the rest of you don't show up til much later.

I am the odd one arriving at Midway. Anyone on Southwest will arrive there also. Both airports have super simple transfers by L train to downtown.

I'll be having a refreshment before leaving Port Columbus. Mine was prescribed by Dr. Wolfie due to extreme anxiety about flying. :P One drink and a couple of pills and I don't recall most of my flight to Seattle.

The bus is a little bit more difficult to get in & out with luggage. But if you have only carry-on size luggage, you will be just fine. If this is too much for you, then take a taxi from where you get off from the Blue or Orange Line in Downtown Chicago. The initial charge of taxi is $2.25 for the first 1/9 mile, additional fraction of a mile charge is $.20 for each additional 1/9 mile. So a 0.3 mile taxi ride should have a meter reading of about $3. The flat fee for the first additional passenger is $1. In comparison, a shared shuttle bus ride from O'Hare to Hyatt is about $36 for two passengers.
That's a copy and paste from somewhere.. I might just take a taxi after exiting the blue line. I've never ridden a public bus before.

Never ridden a public bus before? It's just like the yellow school bus, without all the bullying. ;) Oh, and for the record, no open containers. :o
You can also transfer from the Blue line to the Red line, and there's a stop about 6 blocks from the hotel.
Here is my version of the directions to get from O'Hare to the Hotel via train (YMMV): Blue Line from O'Hare towards Forest Park. Transfer at the Jackson station onto the Red Line towards Howard. Get off the Red Line at the Grand station, and it is about a 6 block walk to the hotel.

I've never even lived in an area that was serviced by taxi service, let alone bus service. Ruralness has its benefits though. Have I mentioned before how hot I think dumb country guys are? ;D

According to what I read on the CTA web site, 7-day transit passes are available from vending machines at certain stations, including the O'Hare station. $28.00.

Funny, I just noticed that in my original post on this thread I welcomed all of the 3013 AMG attendees. Guess I was being a bit overly optimistic that we will do it all again in another 1000 years. :)

The Tax I paid is now my money after bills paid, and I am one off the lucky ones .Maybe if we went at the same time Ann we could same some monies as 2 people buying a ticket at the same time get further reductions on a lot off airlines. After all its free to dream.
Anyway have a wonderful time , create scandal and document it.

I will struggle through this in some sense of order for anyone needing a run down.
Greg has been lazy in his duties and I'm stepping on his toes hard here. (24 hour work days are SUCH a poor excuse. ::).)

Change of plans (slight) I will now arriving a little later on Thursday.
New flight: SW 326 to Midway, arrives 3:10 pm CDT.
All others remain the same. Recall I am going back to Louisville at the crack of dawn (some of you will still be out...lol) on Saturday morning but returning to OHare on Saturday evening at 6 (confident that dinner plans will still be totally unresolved by the time I get back to the hotel...wink!) I am still returning home on Tuesday afternoon.
SO looking forward to seeing my friends and making new ones! Thursday cannot come quick enough!

Heads up for those who are planning to meet up at the airport upon arrival:
I checked on what flights arrive at which terminal at O'Hare...
AA- Terminal 3
Delta- Terminal 2
United- Terminal 1
This is just a suggestion...
Luckily everyone seems to be coming in in a logistical way.
Here is the list in order of arrival time (and terminal):
Carl 8:30am Terminal 1
Fisher 10:36am Terminal 2
Trey 10:46am Terminal 2
Greg 11:25am Terminal 3
Henry 11:35am Terminal 3
Kenny/me 12:40pm Terminal 3
Nick 1:20pm Terminal 3
Mike 2:40pm Terminal 1
I think I've shared my cell phone # with everyone. If not let me know. Just trying to figure out the best way to "herd the cats". :)
Luckily the times of arrival and terminal arrivals seem to work out well for the adventure. :)
Just food for thought.
Comments? Suggestions? Opt out if you wish but wanted to get some sort of coordination going here for those who join the "meet-and-greet-in-the-airport-thing." :)

I would think it could work out just meeting people at their gate of arrival. Everyone's flight info is posted here so it would be easy to find out the gate of arrival (in the correct terminal) by looking at the arrival listings in the airport.
Of course, there still is the baggage pick up to consider. There is a baggage claim area for each terminal.

At terminal 2, there are 2 different lounges; Cubs and Goose Island. Wouldn't that be easier than trekking around and potentially getting lost and dying within an airport? :)

OK, Greg and I got this figured out. Due to security check points the choice of a meeting place is limited.
For those meeting at the airport, the location will be in Terminal 3, Concourse H, near Gate H 1 @ CHILI'S RESTAURANT
(located outside security check points)

We're good to go then! If I get lost this year, at least I won't be alone. Chili's does serve wine for breakfast for those whom are interested. ;D

If I miss at the Airport, see you at the hotel. Sometimes my tail gets stuck in the elevators. Messy. Messy. I get confused and don't know where I'm going :-)

Just wanted to wish everyone a safe trip to Chicago! :)
I think I may have said this before but if someone told me 2 years ago that I would fly half way across the country to meet a group of people that I met online I would have said no way.
Well, here I am doing just that.
It won't matter if the weather turns on us or if we end up in a dive for a meal or two.
Getting to know you all a bit more is the real treat.
