ars question
« on: March 18, 2007, 04:41:42 am »
hi I had an encounter with a sex worker last night. I did not have a condom on and rubbed my penis up and down her vagina outside and also from behind against her anus.  would I have a risk?  also I was very drunk but can remember parts.  would I remember if penetration happened?

thanks

No, you wouldn't be at risk for frottage or fingering. Always use condoms for vaginal and anal sex.

As Rod has indicated you weren't at risk in the incident you have described. Rubbing or frottage is not risky.

The red flag in what you have reported is that you were drunk. Mixing casual sex and excessive drinking is a very dangerous combination. It doesn't sound as if penetration was involved, but if you have any doubts about whether it occured or not then you should get tested at 13 weeks after the most recent unprotected incident.

I'm not saying there was penetration. You will have to decide whether the situation warrants testing or not based on your memory of it.

Thanks so much for your comments.  Just one thing I'm probably being silly but would it be possible for my penis to have slipped into her anus or vagina briefly without me knowing.  To be honest I don't even think I even had a full erection.  Also I was standing behind her just groping and rubbing.  She wasn't bent over.  Thanks

The answer to your question is no.  You definitely would have known it had penetrated.

Personally, even drunk I would know if my penis had gone in or not, but that's me.

I think it's unlikely to have done so from what you have described. However, if you are in any serious doubt about what happened, then get tested at 13 weeks and in all likelihood collect a negative result.

This experience should wake you up to not mixing excessive drinking and casual sex.

I don't see this as likely to turn to into an HIV situation. So it's up to you to decide if you need to test for peace of mind or not. Like AC I don't think penetration took place.

thanks so much guys.  Like you Andy I'm pretty sure I would have known if penetration took place even if drunk.  The shock would soon sober me up anyway!  If I was too drunk not to notice I don't think I would have been capable of an erection anyway!

hi

I know that symptoms do not appear in all cases at all.  however I did read on another site that if they do appear at all in most cases fever is usually present.  I don't have fever.  just curious to know.

Symptoms or even the lack of symptoms mean nothing when it comes to hiv infection. The ONLY way to know your hiv status is through testing.

You didn't have a risk, as you have been told. You could not possibly be experiencing ARS.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

While you don't need hiv testing over this incident, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.
