Menopause in HIV+ Women
« on: January 10, 2008, 12:14:39 pm »
Hi all:

Back in the early 90's, I used to read reports from CA on HIV+ women being at risk for early menopause.  The reason I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this is because this is what has been happening with my body lately:  having periods every two weeks, sometimes heavywith clots; having excessive sweats; mood changing and energy level changing; being overly tired.

If anyone knows if that belief still holds true, about women with HIV getting early onset menopause, and could maybe provide a link, I would so much appreciate it.  (Ann, where are you?)  Thanks ladies!
Peace-
Betty

I hope this isn't considered hijacking the thread; that's not my intention.  I was just wondering about the other end of menopause - the starting instead of the ending :-\.  Anyone know if HIV / lypoatrophy effects starting puberty?  i know that ladies with eating disorders either don't start periods or if they've started, will stop.  Lypoatrophy isn't caused from an eating disorder, but it still disintegrates fat and muscle.  I'm just curious for my jr. pozzie.  Thanks!

I've been hormonal, mean, and sweating since I was 20...I'm almost (in 3wks) 35 - YIKES!

Hi mum:

I don't know the answer to your question, but that is a very good one.  I hope this thread attracts Ann's attention; she seems to be good about knowing things like these. Good luck.

i joined the hot flush club very prematurely some years ago - although in my case, i suspect past heroin and methadone use played a role alongside the effects of hiv. main problems its caused for me is severely decreased bone density.

I am 55
Reached menopause some years ago - not sure my early menopause was HIV related as I am not sure how long I have had HIV - but it could have been some years, without my knowing.

But I also still suffer the hot flushes and other menopausal symptoms etc despite not having  had a period for at least 8 years

Damm awful - along with everything else I have to have a red face and sweats!!!!!

Hi, I'm 49, 26 years HIV pos.  No premenstrual symptoms yet!....not even on hormonal blood tests. Even with HIV, all women are different. Don't worry so much, we tend to bring on our own problems by fearing them... ;) Courage!!!

I believe exceptamircle said it all..

I was going to post, but when reading her post, there was no need.
Nice to meet you Expect..

Anyway..I was about 49 when my periods stopped..Had some hot flashes, not to bad,
but like stated before every women goes though different changes in menapause..

Every body is different, every women is going to go though menapause but no two women are the same, and I believe it has nothing to do with the meds or being hiv..

Hope this helps... ;)
