Syphilis chancre and oral?
« on: April 25, 2017, 04:35:48 pm »
Hi, thanks for all you guys do.

So a few days ago I was with a guy. We kissed and sucked each other off, he didn't cum in my mouth but there was definitely precum. I understand you guys say oral is not a real risk unless you have extenuating circumstances.

I checked my mouth a few days later and noticed little spots in the back corners of my mouth. They just look like little spots to me but suppose they are syphilis chancres, am I at risk from the incidence I described? Thank you.

Just to clarify I mean is there a risk assuming these spots/chancres were present during me sucking him off.

Generally, the theoretical risk of HIV infection through unprotected oral sex on a male would involve significant open wounds in the mouth (as in "meth mouth").  Of course, unprotected oral sex of this nature can expose you to other STD's/STI's.

I really can't advise you further over the internet because it may be irresponsible to do so.  My presumption is that it is highly unlikely that you contracted HIV in this fashion, since even a theoretical risk is low or virtually "zero."  If you do test for HIV antibodies because of this, I would fully expect that you would be "negative."

For your own peace of mind, you may wish to discuss with your healthcare provider.

Hi, I gave a blowjob to a guy which I understand is no risk. If I had throat gonorrhoea or throat chlamydia PRIOR to giving the blowjob (where precum was present) does this increase my risks of contracting HIV?

Thank you

If either has left you with gaping wounds in your mouth sure.

Here the thing, even if that was the case  - Move on with your life.

The mouth undamaged lacks the cells to infect, and when we talk about creating a route it needs to be active/open wounds or damage and than you still have barriers as the virus is very fragile, and your mouth has dozens of protein and enzymes that damage the virus and render it unable to infect, not to mention air that corrodes HIV

So in short there is no need to run test for HIV or worry or panic every time you give a blow job, just make sure to get tested the next time you are due for a regular sexual health checkup.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other easier to transmit  STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim
