Odefsey affects mental emotional capacity
« on: April 23, 2017, 08:34:51 am »
Hello everyone. Im new to the forum but not new to treatments. I was recently switched to Odefsey from a presizta, norvir, truvada regimen. The old 3 pill regimen tore up my bowels and gave me frequent migraines and fatique.

Odefsey seems to be more tolerable on my bowels, but it has hit my mental and emotional state of being quite hard. I feel like Im walking on uneven ground most of the time, have trouble focusing on anything, am considerably more irritable and easily agitated, depressed and more reclusive.

All of these are side effects from Odefsey which they say to inform your dr right away, however when I told him about the effects he shrugged it off and said the drug has nothing to do with these feelings. Hes a busy infectious disease dr and has yet to spend more than 5 minutes with me during a visit.

Originally I was going to be put on Genvoya but for whatever reason he gave me Odefsey. I believe they both affect the nervous system which is causing these side effects, not sure

So my options are to try a new drug regimen and hope I dont run out of options, go back to my old regimen and hope I didnt build a resistance to it or stay on Odefsey and hope my mind and body get better used to it.

I havent worked in over 2 years and cant see how I would be able to in this current mindset. Fatigue and migraines have plagued me for years and just something I have to live with I guess.

So with all that being said, I guess Im just looking for feedback from others who may be experiencing the same conditions or from those on odefsey who can share how it affects them. Ohh, and I asked if there was any other medication that could offset the way odefsey affects my mind and was told flat out no.

Hi sawgrass
Welcome to the forums, sorry to hear you're have problems with your current meds.
As you have probably read some get side affects that get better after a short time.
How long have you been positive and what regimens have you been on so far ?

Best, Wade

Hi

Yeah, can only add sorry to hear you are having problems with odefsey.
How long ago was the switch?

Did the doctor mention what could be a cause and have you followed up on that?

I have been on odefsey for 3 months. My Dr says ill get used to it but it feels like walking around with the wrong prescription glasses on. And the mood swings, depression and anti social behavior are pretty heavy.

Before that I was on prezista, truvada and norvir.
Before that I think it was truvada combivir and kaletra.
I originally started on sustiva truvada and bactrim little over 10 years ago.
At that point I found out I had this disease for 10 years and almost died as my t cells were below 20.

Just a quick update from 10 days. The last 7 days Ive had a severe bout of insomnia. Just last night it seemed to subside some. A week ago I was up all night. barely got an hour or 2 sleep. I felt like my nervous system was buzzing on the inside and I was mentally all over the place. The migraines were intense for the next 2 days and I almost went to er, but was so weak and in pain I couldnt get the strength up to drag myself there.
Over the last week Ive tried my normal prescribed sleep aid ambien and ive tried otc sleep aids other nights and nothing helped. Normally those should have knocked me out cold but I was up buzzing all night.

2 nights ago I stopped all sleep aids and just roughed it out all night. Feel like a walking zombie now. last night i went back to ambien with alprazolam. that finally took the edge off and was able to get some sleep, albeit nothing deep just light sleep.

I see a new specialist today so hopefully he can shed some light on this as Im about at my wits end.

Sorry to hear you are still having problems.

End of the day I think your options realistically are to see GP/primary care and to check & treat anything underlying, check for interactions with anything else you are taking and if the problem remains and does not settle with time than opt to either manage the side effects, or see if a switch is possible.

Anyhow hope your next doc visit can shed some more light on the matter and you feel better soon.

I tried odefsey for about a month or two and I had the exact same symptoms. Sure it could have been because I was warned about the depression side effect of the medication but I definitely felt ithard. I could never really quiet wake up in the morning and felt cloudy and had a major brain fog etc.... I went off of Odefsey for 3 days (while taking tivicay/truvada) and the depression symptoms went away and my brain cleared up. I think you should go talk to your GP and don't let others tell you that it is all in your head. Only you really know how the side effects are really affecting you and you just gotta be honest with it and try to find other combos. There are so many out there these days. good luck
