PENDING MEDICATION CHANGE

Greetings everyone. Dr. appointment today went fine. CD4 at 249, VL still UD. CD4 helper at all time high of 20% (I credit Selenium) to the increase. Two areas of concern, Triglycerides at 261 and Creatine H 1.42 mg/dl. Doc wants to consider changing from Atripla to Epzicom/Tivicay. Welcome any thoughts...suggestions.

No. Triglycerides have been a continuous problem since I started Atripla. Creatine has become an issue she is keeping an eye on. She stressed that this is something to consider if there is no marked improvement in those numbers.

       I was switched to   Epzicom   to replace   Truvada   a few months ago .

       So far I feel  OK    , my blood work comes up the end of August .

        I would not worry to much about the change as long as it is not
        a case of  resistance issues .

Drew, did you have regular lipid panels before starting Atripla?  My horrid numbers had nothing to do with meds is why I'm asking.  If that has been a trend after starting, then perhaps a med change can reverse it.

Pravastatin was my only miracle cure.

how do you feel about the change? if you want it, proceed and bold. if you're not sure, ask the doctor to convince you. the choice is yours

My doctor/HIV clinic doesn't consider a triglyceride number to be "horrible" until it is consistently over 300, especially if your other lipid numbers are OK.

Atripla is well known to fuck up metabolic panel readings so maybe you're doctor figures why wait for worse numbers. It's not as if you have resistance issues limiting your alternative regimen options, so perhaps I would go ahead and change if that's his recommendation.

This ^ . If its the Atripla that's causing the problem then its not likely to get better even with lifestyle changes . One reason of many why I had to ditch the drug ... lipids and triglycerides a lot better now .

Thanks Miss P and Jeff. It's not lifestyle or diet it really is the Atripla. My doc is pretty aggressive and mentioned that she is watching this and if it continues she wants to be ahead of the ball (so to speak).
