I'd like to come up with some thoughts as to how we can share AMG photos. We may want to share some with other attendees only and some with those who request to see them. One possibility is Facebook. Positives of using Facebook is that we can customize who can see what pictures. We don't have to share them with everybody or even Facebook friends; we can specify those who we wish to share with. Another positive is that each person will be responsible for their own pictures. This will mean that no one individual will have to deal with 'em. Negatives are that everybody will have to have a Facebook account. Some folks don't want to mess with Facebook or worry about friends seeing their pictures or information. One way around this is to make up a FB account with a pseudonym for AMG pics. I've had no problems with FB and viruses or spyware, but I don't install any of the add-ons that I keep receiving 'invitations' for.

What are your thoughts on sharing our AMG pictures?

Oh, I'm not sure about FB. I've had bad experiences with people tagging photos of you that you wished the whole world didn't see. A lot of people have family and coworkers as friends on FB and that can get a bit tricky. What about Flicker or one of those photo sharing sites?

If we use a Facebook psuedonym account, like we did for past photo-sharing with other services, we could each set up our own album, like we did in the past. For me, the best site would be the one that loads fastest, and allows you to copy the pictures the fastest. I liked the way that Kodak worked in the past; I didn't like so much the one used last year. It took a while to copy and download photos.

I tried using Flickr (and others) and hated them. Their privacy policy stated that what is uploaded to their service is their, and that they will sell your contact information to marketers. The 'privacy' issues you mention are why I brought up the ability to allow photos to be viewed by specific people, friends, or everybody. This is also why I suggested using a pseudonym.

The Kodak site was nice, but it had no security. By that I mean that when I gave somebody the name and password to view the pictures, they could easily have deleted every photo that had been uploaded. It's primarily designed to be used to upload photos to have printed or ordered on a CD.

I'm hoping that somebody has a photo sharing site they use that offers speed, ease of use, some sort of security, and isn't intrusive (as in 'owning' photos that have been uploaded and the spam marketing).

I set up a group for AMG Gatherings to test it out. A good thing about this is all photos of future gatherings could be kept in this one location. A different group can be set up under this account for each gathering, with pictures only shared among those who attended that particular gathering.

There's quite a few functions which could be beneficial to a group like this other than photos.

I set up an account with the Keepandshare site. anyone who wants to view the pics I loaded has to sign and and establish an account ( just sign up no cost ) then I can add you to the "authorized list" to view the album. just let me know when you sign up what your ident on that site will be so I can find you and "authorize access".

I could make the album public but would rather limit it to those who want to participate...

I set the account ( I think) so you can add pictures but you have to "invite" persons to see them. I did not set it to "public". some folks dont want their pics open to the public. There is a limit to the size and total number of pics but it is pretty high.

I've entered both the indent name and album name you mentioned above in the search thingy, the return message is the same:

"No match found"

What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure if it's universally standard or not. I know these forums (the POZ forums) also 'own' everything we post. I don't believe that all sites 'own' the content. For example, I think I recall reading that Facebook doesn't own the content; those who post it do (but I can't swear to this). I'll have to check up on it a bit more.

read the instruction and click on "document" the pics will come up in a list. just choose one or all

Edited because I have a link to the album I have created if any of you want it send me a PM and we will see if it works.

EDITED again because I need user names to put in so I can share with friends..or at least that's what it's telling me..damn and I have some good photo's to share...

I think I found the answer. We should all be able to upload our photos to Nick's album. Nick just needs to make a minor adjustment in his share options.

21. Can my friends add photos into my album as well?

Yes, your friends can add photos to albums in your account. First, you must give your friends both access to view and edit your album by using the Share With controls (be sure to check the edit box to give them edit rights). Then your friends can view your album and click on the large yellow 'Edit' button above your album, which will place them into the album editor on your shared album. When your friends click on the gray 'Insert Photo' command, they can upload photos into your account/album, or they can insert photos from their own account.

well you need to know your 'friends' user names.

I've added Nick (blair_3915)
Minismum (minismon)
Dennis (amg_gathering)

All of these names are in the thread along with mine (redbluffshadows).

I guess once you've added these names then you can go to theirs album and add pictures. The next question is, I guess, is Whose Album are we using to hold all the pictures.

By the way, I still have a lot more pictures to download.

Snow--I don't have anything uploaded yet. My 2006 top-of-the-line laptop crashed for the 2nd time right after AMG, and I've yet to recover anything. But before that happened, I made a disc for Santi so I will get that back and post my pics this weekend.

FYI...When you are viewing the pictures in my album, scroll all the way to the botton. Underneath the pictures is a banner ad. Underneath that banner ad you will some options (view prev, view next, edit, etc.).

Click on "edit." This will bring you to the next page. To the left of the picture click on "insert a photo." You will then see the option to upload photos to the album.

If you upload them to mine, then I would invite them. If you have uploaded pics to your profile, you could invite them as well. They would only be able to see your pics though.

Since we've hopefully figured this out, everyone would need to add me as a friend to their profile. The account is set up under amg_gathering.

So far I have minimom, anniebc, bocker3, basquo, pozniceguy, and robert.

well, jan, I have to admit even though we're friends (isn't that special) I can't see your pictures.

I've got lots of friends. Listen up: anniebc, nick, bocker3, louahvull, minismom, Dennis and wolfey.

I've added all of you as 'friends' but only Dennis and wolfey have chosen to share any information with me. I have your names listed under my 'friends' column but when I double-click each name it tells me you have chosen not to share with me. So you need to go to your friends list and add each of us individually if you want to see our pictures on your page.

(Question: who is wolfey? She's got 4 pictures posted...of us in Boston.)

I think what Dennis is telling us, is if you go to his (amg_gathering) keep and share page, you should be able to view all our pictures from one place. It's on his page where you download your pictures (but first you have to download them on your own page.)

Now, I'm trying to download my pictures on the AMG_Gathering page. The problem is I've got dial-up and it times out. I guess I'm trying to download too many at once. So I'll keep trying. But if you have broadband, it shouldn't be a problem.

any of our pictures because, quite honestly, I have no idea how where on this computer they are. Hubby, however, does - at least he BETTER! So, either when he comes home from school tonight (after 10:30pm) or sometime tomorrow, I'll pin him down, have him read Dennis's explaination, and have him put them in.

I'm going boating this weekend down to the Keys and up the w. coast to Captiva and will have limited internet access.

If you want to be added to view the album and can either send me your username or invite me in the next few hours, I should be able to get you added before I cast off.

If keepandshare continues to be too difficult, perhaps we may want to resort to the photo sharing format we used last year. That seemed to work very well for everyone.

picture#102- Why are Jan and RAB holding up Granny Panties??? I must have missed this.

Picture 131, 132- Why is RAB lurking around outside the window?? is he waiting for some hotties to happen by?

I had to search every department store and goodwill store in NZ to find those..I wasn't going to give up so I utilized family, friends and neighbours to help me and after a couple of weeks we finally found a pair...

I even have a photo of RAB wearing them but I would need his permission to post it in the AMG photo Albums..

Just saw the pics in AMG_gathering, 182 of them! Great pics.

Thank you Dennis ( it was actually very easy for a computer idiot like me to get connected! ), and thanks to everyone who posted pics. Great memories of meeting and hanging out with all of you!

Jan, if those pics I'm in are yours, thanks for reminding me that the diet needs to get started ....SOON!!
