High risk behaviour and possibility

Hi,

Im an 26 yo male and had sex with a female prostitute in asia 2 weeks ago. The condom broke which i notice after coming and pulling out. The act was brief and no blood was involed - only insertive vaginal sex. I washed my penis instantly.

2 days later i had small fever and sore throat. Now 2 weeks later i have a sore in my penis that maybe resembles herpes or gonorrhea.

I feel so bad. Ashamed and scared. Im i a very dark place in my head.

If possible i would like to know about some directional probability for me to have contracted hiv (assumind that prostitute was positive). If i have contracted other viral disease from her ie. Herpes, then does that mean i also have contracted hiv? Or is the chance for that only significantly higher but still seperate for me to get hiv then?

How reliable is the regular hiv test after 4 weeks? I dont think i can wait three months with this in my head.

Hi Bud,

While a condom breaking is a risk for HIV, it is a very low level one. Transmitting HIV from a  woman to a man is much more difficult to accomplish than from man to woman. And we're talking about a single incident during which you were protected until the condom broke. Taking that all into consideration the likelihood is that you are going to ultimately test negative.

I've never known of anyone to end up testing positive from a broken condom incident.

There is nothing HIV specific about any symptoms you are mentioning. If they persist you should discuss them with a doctor to determine the cause.

You can test initially at 6 weeks. If you get a negative result then you are very likely to continue to test negative at 3 months. I know it's hard to wait but I expect you to come out of this ok.

Thanks for the quick reply. This whole ordeal is crippling my mind at the moment.

May i ask one specifying question. Its about the condom that broke.

The condom was ripped off from the bottom part so basically my penis had no protection anymore. I dont know when it ripped. But do the odds still remain in my favour of not contracting hiv in this case? Did the washing of my penis instantly after the act have any significant meaning towards the odds?

Should i suspend my activities such as marshall arts for the time beign so that i couldnt infect anyone else if i consider the worst case scenario?

There are too many variables to give odds on acquiring  an HIV infection but as Andy pointed out its rare to test positive after a condom break in your situation .

Even if , and its doubtful that you have HIV you can still participate in your martial arts sport without fear of infecting anyone . HIV is acquired from unprotected vaginal and anal sex , sharing drug injection rigs soon after a infected person and from mother to child during child birth , not from martial arts .

Washing up after sex will not insure against HIV infection but the truth is you are probably going to come out of this OK .
