Title: Midnight Madness
Post by: Solo_LTSurvivor on July 20, 2012, 02:46:20 pm
This makes me leery of going to anymore midnight matinees; although I felt like killing a few people when I saw Prometheus on opening night at 12:01 AM  :o

Seventy-one people were shot and 12 killed when a gunman wearing a gas mask opened fire on moviegoers at a sold-out midnight premiere of the new Batman movie outside of Denver, Colorado, police said.

That is so hardcore. When I saw it, a week after it opened, I was so high on oxy and klonnies that I can only fully remember a third of the movie. :(

More about the gunman:

The suspected Colorado movie mass murderer was a loner and graduate school dropout who dyed his dark hair red in homage to Batman’s arch-nemesis the Joker.

Demented gunman James Holmes declared “he was the Joker, enemy of Batman” after his arrest for the killing spree during a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Returns,” said NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Holmes, 24, was a recluse who described himself last year as “quiet and easy-going” on a rental application.

But he withdrew abruptly last month from a Ph.D. program at the University of Colorado-Denver graduate school, spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery said Friday.

She could not say what prompted the decision just weeks before the handsome, dark-haired Holmes reportedly snapped, killing a dozen people and wounding at least 50 others.

The suspect, who came to Colorado from southern California, lived in a third-floor apartment in the Denver suburb of North Aurora — about four miles from the theater where the killings occurred.

Aurora Police respond to the Century 16 movie theatre early Friday morning, July 20, 2012. Police chief Dan Oates said at least 12 dead and another 59 injured in the Colorado theater shooting.

Neighbors told The Denver Post that Holmes was a reclusive type who ignored other residents when they said hello — even though the building was reserved for medical school colleagues and staff.

“No one knew him,” one neighbor told the newspaper. “No one.”

He booby-trapped Apartment 10 before making the drive to the crowded theater filled with a midnight crowd for “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Holmes also left the same song playing on repeat inside his home, where a poster of Will Ferrell from the movie “Anchorman” hung in the kitchen.

In an online rental application last year, Holmes described himself as a “quiet and easy-going medical student,” the Post reported. He was reportedly seeking his Ph.D. in neuroscience.

Holmes graduated from the University of California-Riverside in spring 2010 with a neuroscience degree, the school confirmed.

Holmes, who wore a gas mask during his attack, was not a military veteran and had no ties to any terrorist groups, officials said.

I'm glad our Founding Father (peace be upon them) were so forward thinking about gun use.

This is so sad  :(  The hopital where many of the victims are is the same place my husband sees his ID doctor.  I have a friend who was almost going to go to this very theater last night with her daughter, and did not.

this is very sad, and my heart go's out to the families of the hurt, slain & dead  :(

My son the Firefighter sent me this...It's radio traffic of the shooting from a Fire/REscue persepctive. Chilling. The dispatcher starts losing it when word of children down comes in. Also illustrates the confusion that inevitably occurs in these situations

James Holmes had his initial appearance (http://youtu.be/eeqvTh8vMFI) in court today at which he appeared to be heavily medicated and somewhat unaware of what was occurring.

His actual arraignment, where the charges will be filed against him and made known, has been scheduled for July 30.

At first glance, his defense team will probably try to go for the "legal insanity" angle after attempting to establish that he is incompetent to stand trial.

Edited to include missing punctuation mark.

All I have to say is THANK GOODNESS THIS AIN'T GRINDR (http://www.tmz.com/2012/07/22/james-holmes-colorado-shooting-match-profile/).

Also, it must be noted that orange hair doesn't work well with a prison suit (http://www.tmz.com/2012/07/23/james-holmes-mug-shot/)

And now for the repercussions...

At least 3 men accused of making threats during or after watching the new Batman movie have been arrested in separate incidents, underscoring moviegoers' anxieties and heightened security in the wake of a deadly mass shooting at a Colorado theater showing the film.

A Maine man was arrested when he told authorities that he was on his way to shoot a former employer a day after watching "The Dark Knight Rises," Maine state police said Monday.

Timothy Courtois (http://bangordailynews.com/2012/07/23/news/portland/police-arsenal-of-guns-seized-from-biddeford-man-who-saw-batman-movie-with-loaded-weapon/?ref=relatedSidebar) of Biddeford, Maine, had been stopped for speeding, and a police search of his car found an AK-47 assault weapon, four handguns, ammunition and news clippings about the mass shooting that left 12 people dead early Friday, authorities said.

Courtois said he had attended the Batman movie on Saturday, although police have not confirmed whether he actually saw the film.

"I guess we're taking everything at face value," State Police Lt. Kevin Donovan said. "It's very scary."

Police searched Courtois' home later Sunday and found a machine gun, several other guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

"We don't know what his true intentions were," said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. "Based on the arsenal that was confiscated, we brought in our counterparts from the FBI and ATF to assist with the investigation."

Courtois was charged with speeding and possession of a concealed weapon.

In Southern California, a man at a Sunday afternoon showing of the film was arrested after witnesses said he made threats and alluded to the Aurora shooting when the movie didn't start.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were called to a cinema complex in Norwalk after moviegoers said 52-year-old Clark Tabor (http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2012/07/clark_tabor_dark_knight_aurora_amc_norwalk_threats_angeles_sheriff.php) shouted: "I should go off like in Colorado." They said he then asked: "Does anybody have a gun?"

A security guard saw Tabor with a backpack on his knees in the second row, but deputies who searched the bag, the theater and its surrounding area did not find any weapon.

Separately, moviegoers in Sierra Visa, Ariz., panicked when a man who appeared intoxicated was confronted during a showing of the movie. The Cochise County Sheriff's office said it caused "mass hysteria" and about 50 people fled the theater.

Off-duty Border Patrol agents tackled Michael William Borboa (http://www.svherald.com/content/breaking-news/2012/07/20/276463), 27, who had a backpack with him, according to The Arizona Daily Star. Authorities said it contained an empty alcohol container and a half-empty moonshine bottle.

Borboa was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, and threatening and intimidating.

In order to protect the guards, Holmes is now being forced to wear a face mask because he has been allegedly spitting (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/25/james-holmes-spits-guards-jail_n_1701540.html) at them.

Seriously? I'm assuming they think they can get teh aids  ::)

Hmm, dunno. Without jumping to conclusions, maybe they just don't want to be spat on? I mean, ew. I know I wouldn't want a juicy goober landing on my face, even if there was no chance of any type of infection. It's just icky.

Agreed. Although I know there are some people who get into spit (http://thegaysexguide.com/fetish/)  ;)

Verbal/Gob

This involves spitting and aggressive speech during gay sex. It is usually between partners who have set roles of being either Dom or Sub.

I just can't help believing (just a little bit) that the creation of these spit masks (http://www.spitsock.com/) was rooted in "AIDS phobia".

I get the dom/sub thing (you know I do hehehe) but that's consensual.

Yep, it may have been aidsphobia in part, but lets not forget there actually ARE pathogens that can be transmitted by a well targeted goober, notably TB.

Colorado prosecutors formally charged James Eagan Holmes on Monday with 142 criminal counts (http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/07/30/what-charges-will-colorado-movie-theater-shooting-suspect-face/?hpt=hp_t1), including first degree murder, attempted murder and explosives charges in the shooting rampage at a crowded Aurora, Colo., movie theater this month.

On another note, I am pondering seeing "Dark Knight Rises" at the Franklin Institute. They have one of those massive 180-degree dome theaters for IMAX which are much, MUCH larger than a mall-type IMAX screen.
