Hi Andy,

I'm living in Europe, and I'm a lesbian. Just need your opinion on my situation.
Starting January 5 to February 11 2010, I was with a girl friend of mine.
During this time, we had lot of unprotected oral sex, kissing, sharing the same dildo, sometimes sharing the same toothbrush, and same razor, the same drink, etc.

On May 6 (12 weeks from last risk), I've done some tests:
                HIV 1/2 (by ECLIA) - negative
                Hepatitis B (by ECLIA) - negative
                Hepatitis C (by ECLIA) - negative

Then in May 20 (14 weeks from last risk), I've done:
               HIV 1/2 (by ELFA) - NEGATIVE.

Do you think that I'm HIV negative, and should move on with my life?

Carmen, you are definitely HIV negative. Period. End of story.

The only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. Everything else is strictly "theoretical" in terms of risk. HIV is not passed from environmental surfaces such as sharing drinks, food or utensils including sex toys. HIV is a fragile virus and needs the kind of receptive setting provided by intercourse to remain viable.

However, common sense dictates using one's own toothbrush, etc., as other diseases and germs are much more easily passed than HIV.

As long as you consistently use condoms for intercourse you will be well protected against HIV transmission sexually.

I don't want to upset you, but pls answer to my questions:

    1) is hiv transmitted from food prepare by someone, who cut himself during this time, or had an injury to his hand/fingers? I eat the food in about 1-2 minutes.
    2) if someone had some injuries to his hand and some blood on his fingers, and then offer me some slices of orange fruit, I had a risk?

1. Absolutely not. That myth was dispelled in the mid 1980s. And it is certainly covered in the "transmissions" lesson, had you bothered to read it.

2. While eating bloody food is disgusting, it is not AND HAS NEVER BEEN an HIV risk. Reading our lessons on HIV transmission would answer every single one of the questions you have posed thus far. And it is that willful ignorance that contributes to the stigma and irrational stigma surrounding HIV positive people.

We serve you your food. We handle your money. We kiss you hello and goodbye. And trust me, almost every human on the planet knows SOMEONE with HIV. If you think you do not, perhaps it is because of this very ignorance.
