What's wrong with CSI-NY?
« on: February 19, 2007, 04:35:00 pm »
As usual I have done my best to stay out of the heated debate that has been going on about this CSI thing, but I couldn't help realizing that many folks are fuming about the show...!
Here's one example:

As producers of the Award Ceremony & Afterparty of Idiotarod, we feel that CBS, and producers of CSI New York, have done serious damage to our own reputation and that of the organizers and participants of the Idiotarod Shopping Cart Race.

The flagrant attack on this celebrated event was completely unnecessary. Around this past Thanksgiving, representatives of the program contacted associates of ours and requested use of the name "Idiotarod." We proposed modest changes to the script, but CSI New York refused to give any consideration whatsoever to a fair portrayal, and so all associated with the event were united in rejecting usage of the name. We are considering legal action.

Interesting little read, Val. Thanks

Matty the Damned confesses that he's never watched this television programme that seems to have our resident Chickens-Little running around in circles, squawking and flapping in their typical hysterical manner.

If nothing else it makes for diverting reading.

I don't watch shows such as CSI:NY and the like because they're shown on commercial television. As a financial member of the Intellectual Elite tacky passtimes such as commercial television are beneath me. I presume that it falls into the graceless realm of "Crime TV", like Law and Order, NYPD Blue and so on.

Unfortunately CSI:NY is currently showing on Australian TV. Channel 9 (a low rent affair run by the notorious Packer clan) broadcasts this slab of offal to the slack-jawed Australian public. I've no doubt they love it. Take this review by the grossly overweight and balding Michael Idato, published yesterday in the TV Guide of the Sydney Morning Herald (normally one of Australia's better broadsheets):

CSI:NY
Nine, 9:35 pm Monday

Stark and stylish CSI:NY plays to a formula, but one that is easy to watch if your appetite runs to clinical crime dramas. Thankfully, the emotional resonance that is forced into procedural shows - and which usually sits awkwardly with their tone - doesn't seem to have crept in too far here.

Mack (Gary Senise) and Danny (Carmine Gionvinazzo) investigate the death of a Marine, while Stella (Melina Kanakaredes), Lindsay (Anna Belknap) and Sheldon (Hill Harper) are trying to idnetify a body found in a car. Are the two cases linked (as they so often are)? And what to make of the results when the skull is re-assembled? Good forensic fun.

Given that opinion I feel comfortable in taking the view that this is bland and safe television for the moribund masses. Even better it will provide much needed subject matter for the permanently offended members of these forums.

DAMN,

First Dingo returns from his hiatus, and in the same week, MtD makes an appearance.

Has the polar alignment shifted?  Who will  pop up next?

Will these pages now stop their slide toward unendurable  blandness and get some life again?

Matty the Damned will overlook your mentioning him in the same breath as the Dingo, Whizzles.

As for the "slide toward unedurable blandness" you mention, I say take heart! Do as MtD does and take it as more evidence of your superiority. ;) :-*

Fondly,

MtD
