Missed 4 doses
« on: October 26, 2016, 08:06:58 am »
Hi all.

Wondering if anyone can give me any advice.

I am U/D and have been for 7 months now.

Recently travelled on vacation and in all the rush to pack and leave (Not an excuse I realise) I forgot my meds... didn't realise until I had arrived the other end.

Away for 4 days so missed each dose (Total of 4 missed)

In you opinion, will my V/L have "Shot up" for "spiked?" enough to increase transmission risk?

I must stress, this was a mistake and I'm very aware of resisatnce problems etc, I am more concerned with how quick a V/L would show a difference.

I took my first dose as soon as I returned home and have taken all doses for the last 2 months since return, so hopefully back to normal?

Thank you for any help you can give, this forum is an incredible resource that I've used since being first diagnosed and it's helped me many times.

Okay, shame you missed 4 days.

Now your 2 months on since missing the dose, well the next VL test will tell for sure but to be honest I would not expect any issues however just don't do it again :-) I would not worry or stress about this at all.

Thanks so much for your reply Jim.

Do you think my V/L or risk of transmission would have "Spiked" (can't think of another term) during those missed doses? As in, does it very quickly rise or is it a slow thing?
I hear of people taking week breaks or even month breaks with no danger, would this apply?

Thank you again for any advice.

No one's going to be able to answer with any certainty whether your viral load and/or risk of transmission "spiked" during the four days you did not take your medication.  Only a contemporaneous viral load test would have been be able to answer that question.

My guess, though, would be probably not, but viral replication is an individual biological/cellular reaction to HIV infection and there's a "bell curve" for everything (some people may have spiked, others not), so your speculation is as good as mine.

In any case, I would expect by now that your viral load is back to where it was before you missed the four days of medication.
