Am I just Being paranoid?
« on: April 26, 2011, 12:02:50 pm »
Ive been worried for the past 3 weeks since I had sex with a CSW.
It was protected sex but I fingered her with a small open cut on my finger. Am I at risk of getting HIV or other viruses?

You were not at risk for HIV. Sexually the only confirmed risks for the tranmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse.

Because other STDs are easier to acquire than HIV, we recommend that anyone who is sexually active ought to at least once a year have a full STD panel done.

I don't see any need for HIV testing in relation to this recent incident.

Borino,

As Andy has told you, you were not at risk for hiv infection and so there is no reason you cannot have sex with your wife.

Protected intercourse is just that - protected. There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Fingering, even with cuts present, is not a risk for hiv infection. Not one person has ever been infected this way and you will not be the first.

The only thing you were at risk for during this incident is a bucket full of guilt, which you seem to have gotten. You did what you did and you can't undo it, so forgive yourself and get on with your life.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Borino,

You're welcome. Now get off the internet and go do something nice for your wife. That will help ease the guilt far more than trawling around hiv internet sites.

ann,
i have a question. as per the infrmation that ive read here in the forum that hiv virus is located deep in the vagina. i had protected sex with her but before i wore a condom i went inside her vagina for like 3-6 pumps. but imy dick was not fully inserted it was like 2-3inches of my dick only. was my risk lower since i did not go deep inside her vagina?

Borino,

The truth comes out, eh? Any unprotected intercourse is a risk, although what you describe is very much on the lower end of the risk scale. I would not expect you to end up positive over this brief activity.

This means you do need to test, just to be sure. You must be at or near the three month point, so go test collect your inevitable negative result and put this behind you.
