insurance for international student who's hiv poz
« on: September 02, 2015, 03:47:31 pm »
hello. i am 28 yo chinese indonesian male from jakarta, indonesia. i was just diagnosed that i am poz on april 2015 so i am still kinda new and coping with this whole new hiv thing.

life has been ups and downs for me.

i thought 2015 is gonna be a good year for me.

good career. continue my education. good life.

it was changed when i first broke up with my boyfriend in the early year of 2015 and my life has been such a wreck. one of the issues is i got infected and surely it affected my job performance (i cant think clearly and always feel depressed) and also my education.. i am really sad and clueless and lost hope for my future. i feel so worthless.

i know not like in the states, indonesia is still pretty taboo when it comes to hiv/aids. that's why right now my only best friends are all the websites about hiv that i googled from the net (havent told anybody yet except only one friend of mine).

when i googled about requirements to apply visa to the states or any west europe countries, it said that it no longer dont need for hiv test and it gives me kind of hope. because i really want to continue my study abroad.

but my concern is now, how can i get an insurance for my hiv treatment if i happen to go there and continue my study ? is there any such thing for international student that is hiv poz ? bcoz rite now i already started the arv treatment (and it's free here surprisingly).

right now my feeling is more stable and i can think more focus than before and i've decided to continue my life and i wont let this virus takes down my life.

can anybody here in this forum answer my question ?

sorry for the long writing that i write. i just dont have anyone to share or talk even in my own country.

thank you.

I can feel you & I can relate to you. I am not from the US as well so I really don't know if there is an insurance for your case. But I guess you can seek help from HIV/AIDS organisations when you're already there.

Hello
Your educational and information challenge is to identify the country, school, and program you would like to pursue.  And then to be accepted to that school and programme and have the necessary student visa, and financial resources to do that study abroad. I do not think many western European countries are going to have an issue with someone who is HIV+ but has met all the criteria I previously listed.  For example in switzerland, nobody can be denied insurance. But someone must be able to pay for the insurance.
In socialised countries with national medical care, an HIV+ student is going to be offered the same plan as an HIV- student.  I think your primary challenge is identify the study programme and then figure out how visiting student insurance is done SPECIFICALLY in that location/country.
