cunnilingus
« on: August 12, 2013, 06:30:14 pm »
About 6 weeks ago i hooked up with a random girl i met at a bar. We went back to her place and went to her room where we kissed with a little biting on her part. i fingered her and then licked her clit for less than a minute or so. i refused to have sex with her because i did not have a condom. i am about to re enter and old relationship and in am afraid i could have contracted hiv. i know symptoms are unreliable so ill spare you me listing the ones ive experienced. internet diagnosing has driven me crazy. i just need to know if i put my self at risk over nothing.

Hi Mike , you didn't have a risk so you can relax . Cunnilingus isn't a risk for HIV . The risk factors for HIV are as follows .

Sharing IV drug needles immediately after use.
Unprotected anal and vaginal sex.
Mother to child during or shortly after birth
Very specific healthcare situations

There have been no fewer than three separate serodiscordant couples studies (where one person is HIV positive, the other negative.) These couples were tracked for three. five and ten years. The couples used condoms for penetrative vaginal and anal sex, but NO BARRIER at all for oral sex. Any kind of oral sex.

These studies yielded NO infections.

Use condoms correctly and consistently and you will avoid HIV .

Thank you for the information and reassurance. Out of curiousity why do the rest of the internet sites ignore those studies and still report the possibility of transmission based on a few "reported cases" of oral sex transmission.

I wish I knew and I wish they would update the information they hand out . Facts matter when it comes to HIV assessments . All we can do is offer the latest peer reviewed science and hope people see we deal in facts and not misinformation .

The truth is that in 30 years there have been a scant few cases attributed to oral sex and those claims almost always followed by unpublished updates adding that there were other risk factors other than oral that contributed to the infections .

If it makes you feel less anxious, then go ahead and test. You will NOT test positive over cunnilingus.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."
