Blogs a flutter about the ridiculous "attack ad" against Romney that pivots on him being a French speaker - the shame of it all!

Gingrich spent his teens in France!  Did he successfully manage to avoid learning that laughable, pretentious and very homosexual tongue (prerogative of every true patriotic red-blooded American - don't learn the language!), the knowledge of which rightly dooms any Presidential candidate in these populist times?

Hilarious isn't it? I saw that yesterday and thought it was brilliant, only because it's a liberal group doing the ad and playing on a very visceral loathing that conservatives have. Add in the translation that shows him saying humans contribute to global warming and it's win-win.

Reminds me of Richard Perle bashing the French continually 8 years ago yet vacationing annually in the South of France where he owns a home.

Anyone is fair game for accusation of pretentiousness.  Any whiff of Frenchiness is classic and easy.  Obama got hit for the arugula.  What the fuck was he thinking? (He wasn't thinking.)  Gingrich seems to have survived the Tiffany's scandal.  Kerry somewhat deserved being ridiculed for his elitism. He was also slammed simply as "Kerry is French".  Jackie Kennedy was NOT universally adored.  There is always the two-edged sword - we want an elegant educated first family living in a style befitting the nation's power, and yet we don't.  Gotta love it or at least laugh.  Chelsea Clinton's pretentious royal wedding would put a Kardashian shindig to shame, and the marriage lasted about as long as Kim's.

Let's take a trip back to July 2007. The many presidential candidates of both parties are dividing their time between the early primary states, and the economy's bottom was still many months from falling out. Then-underdog Barack Obama asked farmers at a campaign stop in Iowa: "Anybody gone into Whole Foods lately and see what they charge for arugula? I mean, they're charging a lot of money for this stuff." The reaction from pundits and Republicans was swift and uniform -- Obama was betraying his elitism by talking about this exotic "arugula" substance in front of middle-American farmers who don't have the time or money to waste on big-city salad greens.

Of course, Iowa farmers grow lots and lots of arugula, and it's sold in supermarkets all across the state. But no matter -- Obama said "arugula" and "Whole Foods" in the same sentence which meant he didn't understand middle-America.
