Pain Urinating, Big t-cell drop
« on: February 24, 2011, 07:21:01 pm »
Not the best of DR. appointments yesterday.

My t-cells dropped from 1051 to 450. Never had a fall off like that before. The Dr. said he was not too concerned because the percentages were the same. How that is possible baffles me. But he's not concerned so I won't be.

The last two months I have had really bad pain urinating. I have been going every two hours during the night, so I have not slept well. The DR. thinks it is a prostrate infection. I gave a sample so we will see. And yes I got the finger with plastic glove, and no I didn't enjoy it. :o He said it felt enlarged. He gave me some Cipro so we shall see how that goes.

My cd4's tanked similarly when I caught swine flu but my % was the same.  Definitely sounds like some type of infection.  Hope you get it figured out quickly.

ps: after I recovered my cd4s returned to where they'd been quickly.

I was told my prostate was slightly enlarged...though I haven't noticed anything different. I did experience a burning sensation once during urination. All I could think of was the time I  caught 'the clap' during Mardi Gras one year.

I had just had a med change and DRG showed me where it showed a side effect of a burning sensation and she recommended increasing my water intake. It seemed to help.

How long do you have to wait to get your test results? Is it still burning?

Sorry you are going through this Jeff... let us know when you get your results.   Hopefully, it is just an inflamed prostate, and the Cipro will help.

Are you on any urinary-related drugs?  I take Flomax; it has helped me a lot

I agree, he should have put you on a drug for the enlarged prostate at the same time as the antibiotic, especially since he doesn't have a lab result yet proving an infection. I've been on Flomax and it worked. Now on generic doxazocin, works better for me and is many times cheaper. If you don't get improvement in a few days, I'd recommend seeing a different doc. Good Luck.

Hey Jeff,

As usual, I am late to join in.

So, how are you feeling now? Did the Cipro help?

Miss P , thanks for sharing your similar experience! It's comforting to know that someone has survived a similar event.
Rondrond- My pain is not burning at all. The pain is really bad in the bladder area just before I pee.

A Alan and Diebster, how long do you have to take Flomax? Are there any side effects?

Mark- my mail order pharmacy screwed up again, won't have the Cipro till Monday UGH...I have been drinking as much water as I can, and that helps a little. But I am still waking up every two hours like clock work. I just feel run down all the time. what I'd give for 8 hours of sleep!
Thanks to everyone for your input and concern. I'll keep you posted!

I have a number of problems of this kind even pre-HIV. I was eventually diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (IC).
My doc had to try several different meds for it before one was found that worked. I have been on Elmiron for about 4 years. Have to take 200mg twice a day. Without it I can go as often as every half hour, basically I cannot get out of the house. With it I can stay 3-4 hours without having to go.

Mabrain, so you have not got a decent nights sleep for years? that is the most debilitating part of this for me.I was always fatigued before this, now I'm really dragging ass big time. How do you deal with not getting a decent nights sleep?
I'm glad the Elmiron has worked for you. any side effects from that drug?

Hey Jeffreyj, I too get that burning infection when I pee at least twice a yr. but, the Cipro usually clears it up in about a week, however my ID doctor and Nephrologist doctor seem to be at odds as the what really is the cause of this, could be my kidney's? could be a prostate infection? they cannot seem to find out what it is?

I've too lost a lotta sleep going every few hours, but, now , when I take the 50MG of Trazodone, I'm knocked-out and don't worry about this anymore, I hope the Cipro helps, it worked for me.......good luck, keep us posted and update this often as your not alone with this same problem  :)

Jeff, sorry I'm late to this.  I, as you know, don't have a prostate, but I did just get over (another) urinary tract infection last week.  They had to switch my antibiotics twice, but it finally went away.  I totally empathize with you having to urinate every couple hours; that's what I was doing while battling the UTI.  I get these a couple times a year, and I can't stand them.  I hope the Cipro works for you.  Please take care of yourself!

H All,
I can't believe this pharmacy. I still, ten days later, have not received my Cipro. I have yelled, screamed. Such incompetent people it's unreal.
Sorry to say no update with that. I am so pissed off!

On a bright note the urine sample came back clean.

While all of this was going on I decided to stop drinking crystal lite. It is a mix diet drink. I love it. Funny thing has happend. The sharp pains just before I go have almost stopped! I still go every hour or two during the night, but at least when I go, it doesn't feel like my bladder will explode. So that may be a wild coincidence, but hey, what ever helps right!

I have called my DR. and my case worker and the ADAP people. I am going to bitch about this pharmacy. I think they have too much business to handle.
UGH....Trying to hang in there. Thanks so much for your support, it really is so helpful. You guys and gals are great! I'll keep you posted!

Thanks so much!

Jeff, it's been several years, but as I remember, the Flomax will take a week to two weeks to be fully effective. The only side effect is less output of semen upon orgasm, as some of the cum can go backwards into the bladder. And, therefore, the next pee can be cloudy because there is semen in it.
This didn't bother me at all. It was a very small price to pay to be able to sleep through the night, and not run to the bathroom every 2 hours during the day.
When I need an antibiotic, I get it locally, instead of by mail order. I know you might have to pay the co-payment, but if you need it soon, you need it. The doc could put you on a cheap antibiotic for a week (that you get locally) while you wait for the name brand antibiotic to arrive by mail order. I would Seriously consider switching pharmacies. I have meds, even an antibiotic, in 48 to 72 hours by mail-order. More than that is just too much to put up with.
In brotherhood, deibster

Sorry for the late response, I have been busy lately.
I do get up in the middle of the night to pee, usually at least once, and then go right back to sleep. I don't think that prevents me from having a decent night's sleep. I usually sleep 8-9 hours.

I have not noticed any side effects from the Elmiron whatsoever.

Probably not all that much of a coincidence. There are a lot of things that make me go more. Anything with caffeine . Sometimes alcohol, depending which kind. You can try drinking only water (I drink filtered taped water with a RO system at home) for a week and see if things improve consistently, and if they do, add other drinks back one at a time.

My Dear Friends,
I am pleased to report that the Cipro worked its magic! I no longer have pain, and for the first night in over 2 months, I got a normal nights sleep.
I'm so happy I could ...pee myself!

Thanks to everyone or the support and kind words! It means allot to me, and no doubt helped me get well.
Hugs to all!
