Title: Please help young and scared with children and unprotected sex
Post by: scared0413 on April 04, 2013, 12:55:32 pm
I am a 25 year old female who done something stupid and had sex unprotected with a male nurse that i work with. It only happened twice and he did not ejaculate inside of me. it was rough though and it lasted a long time. I am so worried with this that i can not get it out of my head and i have even seeked counceling. So i went to my local health department at 5 1/2 weeks post exposure and it was negative they used an oraquick swab. I also tested at 6 1/2 weeks oraquick swab and it was negative. then i had a third generation antibody hiv blood test done at 7 weeks and it was negative. I then went to the health department and because the nurse knows me so well and know that i am so scared she gave me another oraquick advance swab at 8 weeks and it was negative. i havent had any symptoms but a sore throat for the past week so from my 7th week to my 8th week it has been a sore throat. i know symptoms are not indicative of hiv and only a test will tell but if a person truly had ars how long after symptoms started would it show on an hiv test for the person to become positive. I am really scared and i have really learned my lesson fromt this and will not make this mistake again. I asked the rn i work with if he had anything before this encounter and he stated no. but then i contracted herpes from him so i do not trust anything that he says. I also asked him to take an oraquick test and he didn't wanna said he didn't have anything and it was ridiculious but i explained to him my fears and how it's taken over me so he took it but he did not follow it exactly you are supposed to run it over the top of gums once and bottom once and he just scrubbed the top a little and ran it over the bottom but it still took and was negative although i worry about these results since he didnt' do it exactly. what do you all think. DR. HHH on medhelp assures me with all the tests that ive taken that i was not exposed to hiv but i am still scared please help!! I appreciate anyone who really knows about this that can help me i know the cdc says 3 months but so many people keep saying 6 months then a year to be sure?? i know theres alot of questions on here but if someone could please answer id be so greatful you dont know how greatful id be

Hi Scared . I read your concerns carefully and think you did the right thing getting tested . I think you can relax and take a deep breath ... your 8 week negative test is highly unlikely to change and you can by all odds look forward to a negative result when you test again at 13 weeks or 3 months .

It doesn't do any good to discuss symptoms because they are not specific to HIV and the only way to tell is to do what you have done , and that is test for HIV . We do not discuss symptoms for this very reason .

Please do me a favor and break up your post into blocks like I have done , its much easier to read that way .

So do u think I am pretty safe with these results? And I know u say symptoms are not reliable but I have never had a sore throat for a week. I am really worries. I keep telling myself he probably would not have even offered to take the test if he had anything to hide even if he didn't do it right?

I think you are going to be just fine and get a negative result . If you are feeling unwell it has nothing to do with HIV , so go see your doctor and find out whats making you sick .

Also I was told that it can happen from one time but most people contract this virus through many exposures to it what do u think about this..im just curious as to how some people actually contract it..see my uncle died of HIV that progressed to aids in 2005 and for me its not stigma its real. And that is why I am so scared he contracted from his wife whom didn't know she had it til she got pregnant her and the baby both died and he was left alone..so what ate ur all views on this virus anyone who knows feel free to reply

Getting HIV from multiple exposures is a complete myth . It takes one act of unprotected vaginal or anal sex with a positive partner to become HIV positive .

It doesn't mean that every time a person has unprotected sex with a person with HIV that it will result in an HIV infection , it just means it only takes one time if the conditions are right .
