HIV in tears despite effective therapy
« on: August 30, 2011, 01:55:48 pm »
HIV found in tears despite effective therapy according to a recent study. Viral load were quite high raging from 5,181 ± 7,283 copies/ml in the 16 subjects with undetectable viral load in plasma. This findings suggests that tear glands could act as a reservoir for HIV in presence of HAART and that tears are theoretically infectious.

"After informed consent, clinical nurse specialists and psychologist influenced patients mood to induce burst into tears."

I wonder if they were successful in every instance of provoking someone to the point of crying.

To think my HIV tadpoles are possibly swimming in the deep end of my tear pools.

Well, it nearly makes me lachrymose just imagining their little laps, perhaps a few synchronized moves.

No disrespect to xman or the science, just need a goof-off break here.

Wow I am ignorant of this but, is this much more than can be found in the sperm of undetectable men?
Its depressing and scary.

The amount of HIV in tears cannot trigger an HIV infection in another person, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), unless they have blood mixed in them and you have significant and direct contact with them. Same apply to feces, nasal secretions, sputum, sweat, tears, urine, and vomitus.
This is  known since long time.

When I read the title of this thread I thought xman had started therapy and was crying about it despite it being effective.

Goes to show how fried my mind is after sitting in front of a 'puter all day.

Em, you are the 2nd person ever to use the word lachrymose in these threads!

I wonder how tears could be infectious...

Well, I guess that kissing someone's tears away just turned deadly.

Nope, not even. Saliva contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect. Also, hiv can only infect a very few, very specific cell types, cells that are not found in abundance in your mouth.

Being infected by tears is even less likely that you finding mommy kissing Santa Clause underneath the mistletoe. Even if Santa is actually your fat uncle in a Santa suit. Particularly if Santa is the Real Thing. Just like hiv infection through tears, the Real Thing doesn't exist.

Well, maybe only in the minds of OCD type WWs. And I can't wait until they start stumbling across this thread. ::)

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

News as old as GRID.

This whole "I got mah AIDS from a crying queen" is going to become the excuse du jour.  It even has an immaculate, Mary Magadalene ring to it.  Count on it.

Yep, that's pretty fried alright. So, Inchie, are you the first or shall I go to 'search mode'. Reading this thread just makes you wanna have a shot glass of tears, doesn't it? Just a devil-may-care snort of saline with a chaser of eyelash soup.

Go away, John. That is a totally different kettle of fish. ::)

The next time we get someone in Am I freaking out over a kiss, can I send them your email address so YOU can hold their hand through all the unnecessary testing they'll do?
