Am I seroconverting?

(1/1)

Concernedgal:
Hello! I would like to ask for help. I had receptive vaginal sex with a guy of unknown status several days ago. He used a condom but I did not notice if the condom slipped, ripped, or broke during intercourse. 10 days after this, I developed a sore throat. I did not have a fever but I felt fatigued with some headaches and bodyache. What are the chances that these are seroconversion symptoms? What is the risk if the condom slipped or broke during intercourse? If I test 14 days after intercourse, what is the accurcacy of that test?

Jim Allen:
Hiya.

Read your post three times, your symptoms have nothing to do with HIV and you do not require HIV testing out of yearly routine over this encounter.

Move on with your life, and as you are sexually active, get a yearly STI & HIV screening out of standard routine.

Please do not post about this again, thank you.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV and get vaccinated against HPV, Hepatitis A & B.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Kind regards

Jim
