Scratches, scrapes and pricks

Good evening Jim and others,

I have been deliberating whether to post or not because I’m certain of the response, but would really appreciate the reassurance.

Tried on a new jacket a few days ago and there was an open security/ sensor tag in the pocket with the pin/ sharp end exposed. I put my hands in the pocket and managed to prick my thumb and then scratch my knuckle on this pin part whilst removing my hand.. No visible bleeding mark on my thumb but a small, bleeding scratch on my knuckle.

Took it to the checkout, but they seemed more concerned that someone was shoplifting and hiding the tags.. Now playing mind games- it was a busy store, could have been dried blood on the pin/ needle bit, maybe even fresh blood- I didn’t even look out of panic.

Your wise words are appreciated in advance  :)

Did they at least apologize and offer you first aid?

Bryn789:
Nope- but logged it on a theft checklist.

Ugh ... this is why I do most of my shopping online nowadays. Retail staff are becoming more useless than ever, However, my partner loves shopping and whenever we are out shopping and she has a question I beg her not to ask the staff unless they look to be at least 50+ years old as asking anyone younger in retail always seems to end up causing more issues than it resolves.

Sorry rant over if anyone reading this is offended about ageism, don't bother complaining as I don't care.  ;)

I read your post three times, carefully, it's zero HIV risk. There was no exposure to viable HIV to cause infection, as the pin/sharp object was exposed to the environment and there also was a lack of quantity and no route.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV and get vaccinated against HPV, Hepatitis A & B.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Kind regards

Jim

Haha- precisely my thoughts. The cashier only looked about 12 and didn’t want to cause a fuss!

Cheers Jim. Have a good evening.
