Rationale for earlier ban of stem cell research by Bush?
« on: July 11, 2012, 11:32:20 pm »
George W. Bush was not the popular president As we all know.
Many have their pet peeves with him.  My personal belief with Bush was his disagreement with stem cell research and how he imposed a ban on it from 2001-2009. (It was overturned by Obama) George Bush I remember said that he did not want the U.S. tax payer dollars to go into this research field.

It makes me think about how we hear a lot of promising innovations with stem cell research. Was his implementation of the ban rational?
Not being a downer, but putting things in perspective.
If President George Bush did not ban the research. One could  bet a lot could have been accomplished in those eight years.

It makes me wonder, what was his agenda at the time. Where there any "dirty politics" involved in this matter? Anyone familiar with this matter back 11 years ago to prove his rationale?

The ban was in effect to not allow additional "embryonic stem cell" research.  George Bush was a Republican and was pro life.

What dirty politics?  People who are pro life are not for destroying and performing research on human embryonic cells.

It was just the embryonic stem cell research aspect of it? Okay, that makes more sense. I read the articles from 2001-2002. -- It mixed the words a lot.

It makes a lot more sense

Thank you, for making it much more specific.

Just as an aside, my personal beef was two useless vile hateful wasteful wars, and endless ass kissing of the rich, enormous budget deficits and global financial meltdown. A culture of fear. The invention of that quasi fascist word "homeland".  Destruction of good will towards America around the world.  And yet I would still have had a beer with him.  ;) (oh wait, supposedly he was a teetotaler).
