Going outta my mind.
« on: April 28, 2021, 09:08:55 am »
Hello,

Back in July 2019 I had a unprotected sex with a sex worker and thought nothin of it (I should’ve). Recently, back in November 2020 I had another encounter, but this time I’ve used protection (condom). After that, I’ve had STD tests to include a HIV 4th generation ag/ab blood test. Because I noticed a faint wet rash on my genitals a month after and unfortunately after the third test, I’ve found out that I have HSV-1. I am not sure which encounter I got it from, nevertheless, it crushed me and put me in a very depressive state. fast forward to now, I am now again anxienty bound because Im worried that I may have also been exposed to HIV from those encounters. I’ve had the 4th gen blood test at 6 weeks (42 days) and again at 11 weeks (80 days) from the last possible exposure (NOV 2020). They both came back negative. I have also got a Rapid finger prick test recently at 5 months post exposure because I’ve experienced a mild fever for a day or so that put me on alert again. It also came back negative.

I am also experiencing from what I believe is oral thrush and swollen ridges on the side of my tongue and occasionnaly a burning sensation on the roof of my mouth and tongue. To add to it, Im also feeling very fatigue with body aches. I have been feeling like this for at least a couple of weeks and my anxienty is through the roof and exhausted about worrying that its putting me in a depressive state again.

Do you think I am still in consideration to seroconvert? I can’t seem to get it outta my head and move on. Im tired, I really am. I would go to a doctor, but with the covid situation of where Im at right now, its really hard to do so.

Thank you for accepting me in the forum and thanks in advance for taking your time to read my case.

Hiya,

July 2019 was an HIV risk. From the Nov 2020 encounter, no HIV concern was needed.

You tested and the results are conclusively negative, meaning you did not acquire HIV from the July encounter that was a risk or from the Nov encounter that wasn't an HIV concern to start with.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider starting PrEP going forward as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as safe in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other easier to transmit STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Kind regards

Jim

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it, I have never had this kind of anxiety before so I really don't know how to respond to it. The "symptoms" that I am also experiencing is not helping either.

You're welcome and I hope you feel better soon.

All I can tell you is it's not HIV from the encounters posted here, I would suggest  (covid permitting) you contact your doctor so they can treat whatever is making you feel unwell.

Best, Jim
