Title: Brooklynmom - serodiscordant couple
Post by: Brooklynmom on September 05, 2018, 08:37:58 pm
Hi,
I'm beginning, married to a poz guy. It's nearly a year, he's undetectable, but we're still terrified of not using condoms
My doctor today reminded me to take my truvada more seriously. So he's being cautious or is it unnecessary?
We're also thinking of another baby and are worried sperm washing and whatever else needed will be a fortune.

Hiya

So you are back on the Truvada, i presume the previous concerns were resolved thankfully. https://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=69090.msg

There are also plenty of other HIV positive parents here who I am sure will chime in on the pregnancy part. The short of it is HIV is not a road block to pregnancy or having HIV negative children.

Once your husband is UD for more than 6 months and remains adherent to his treatment than, he is not going to transmit the virus to you during condom-less sex. TaSP - Treatment as prevention is great.

End of the day its your choice how you reduce your perceived risk, given how "terrified" you are the PrEP is just an additional peace of mind to help you during the time that you try to get pregnant.

Medically speaking, the truvada is unnecessary. If your partner is UD and you are monogamous then he won't transmit the virus. If that's not the case, then yes it's sensible to take PrEP.

Myself and girlfriend (she is neg) have regular unprotected sex, with the doctors blessing.

And has been said, with modern treatments you can conceive naturally. Sperm Washing is unnecessary.

My partner is HIV positive/ undetected and has a child (conceived naturally)

If you haven’t found the results of the Partner study, I suggest you google it; it even reassured my parents.

That being said, if your doctor encourages you to take PrEP, I think you should stick with it.
