strip club
« on: July 04, 2006, 01:06:37 pm »
Hi,

I went to a strip club and I grabbed a chair, and I noticed there was something sticky and slimy on the chair... i thought nothing of it and then i rubbed my eye and mouth a few seconds later... but then i realized it could have been semen because i heard stories of men masturbating at strip clubs... is there a potential risk for getting hiv this way?

thanks

Please read the lesson on this site about transmisison. This epidemic is going to be around for a longtime to come and you need to know the basics about HIV transmission. The link to it is in the first thread in this section.

That way you can protect your health and be spared a lot of unnecessary worrying.

Cheers,

new incident
« Reply #3 on: July 10, 2006, 08:21:27 pm »
hi,

i decided to get a blood test done today for unprotected sex encounter from a long time ago... and now i am starting to get fears from getting hiv from the clinic where i got a blood test...

my question is this: everything went fine when the nurse took my blood... the nurse then put a band aid without the gauze... and so half an hour later, the band aid on my arm was soaked with a lot of blood... i thought it was unusual because those kind of wounds heal quickly... is it normal for my arm to continually bleed like that? because my mind is racing and thinking that the blood was from somewhere else... could it be that since there was no gauze, there was no pressure, and so there was still a lot of bleeding?

thank you

If you didn't continue to hold pressure on it of course it will bleed.

Zuzu, your mind IS racing. Tell it to give itself a rest.

Nothing you have described suggests to me in anyway that you have to be concerned about the circumstances of your test today.

You referred to unsafe sex a longtime ago without specifying the nature of the incident. I'm wondering what the incident was since your evaluation of risk in other situations is....questionable. Please clarify. You maybe worrying without cause.

it was unprotected sex with a woman i hardly knew with no condom, and it happened like in May, so roughly 2 months, but i know you guys adhere to the 3 month rule... but i am sure 2 months can give some assurance.

but then, i am afraid of what happened in the clinic...

after having a blood draw, is it is normal for the wound to bleed excessively if there is nothing to cover it like a gauze?

what if the nurse touched the sharps container and then applied the bandage on my arm? because there would have been blood in the sharps container... please give some advice.

thanks

There is no risk what so ever from what you claim was your situation at the clinic.

but the blood could be from somewhere else...

but if not, then is it normal for your arm to bleed a lot after a blood drawing without any gauze or band aid?

Yes it is normal for your arm to bleed a lot if you don't keep direct pressure on it a while.

when i saw all that blood on my arm like 20 minutes later it really freaked me out...

i thought that the nurse could have touched the sharps container that had blood on it from previous blood drawings, and then put the band aid on me...

She wouldn't have touched the gauze that covers the puncture.

zuzu,

I've never in my life seen a sharps container that had blood on it. Even if it did, that would not pose any hiv threat to you, even if she touched it and even if she then touched you or the gauze. Stop whattiffing over this blood draw incident.

The only worry you have is the unprotected intercourse. However, hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and more so from a woman to a man during vaginal intercourse. You have an excellent chance of testing negative. But please, don't push your luck. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

You should also get checked out for all the other STIs as well, because they are all much more prevalent and easier to transmit than hiv and some can be present without any obvious symptoms.

No zuzu

The HIV test is very VERY specific in testing for HIV, it will not get confused with the cold virus or the flu virus either.

No, a cold and cough will not affect the results of your test. I don't understand why you are going to test when you have already tested. Please read the "Welcome" thread.

I submit that you are rather addicted to the drama of the HIV test at this point.

I urge you to seek the help you really need.

i got tested again on friday...

when i was sitting on the chair i saw two spots of liquid on the arm rest where my arm received the needle... if it was blood from a previous patient, the nurse would have cleaned it? i seem to have problems ever since i had unprotected sex...

but anyway, the nurse would have been required to clean it if it was blood? and besides, it was raining, so maybe it was two rain drops because i did not have an umbrella.

Zuzu,

It would not have been blood.  But even if it were, it would pose no threat to you.

it would not have been blood because nurses are particularly cautious and aware of such things?
