Alan George, (numbersguy82). July 1982 - Nov 2024.
« on: November 14, 2024, 04:23:45 am »

With great sadness, I share the news of Alan's sudden passing.

Most here will be aware that Alan passionately believed in peer support and the importance of mental health and, in addition to posting on the forum and sending many private messages of support and comfort to people over the years, Alan actively facilitated regular peer support calls to give forum members a safe & supportive place to talk directly.

Alan will be deeply missed.

My condolences to his family, and I wish them strength during this difficult time.

ojo.             WHAT!!, omg, I’m so sorry to hear this. Sending hugs not can imagine what happened. I tried to talk to him via PM, I never heard back from him. I’m in shock 😮…I’m glad I got to “met” him on the monthly gathering, even though I couldn’t see him, but he sounded like a great guy…R.I.P…. I am feeling so sad.

I was just dumb-founded last night when this came across my FB feed. Alan and I texted several times each month, and we all just saw each other last weekend on the last monthly virtual gathering.

I'm really going to miss Alan. :( He was funny, kind, and a really good-hearted guy.

ojo.            I’m sorry that I didn’t get to hear him last weekend but again, something came out, went to Niagara Falls, that I couldn’t make it to the meeting.. And I agree with you, Michael, even though I just got to meet him once, but I read his last funny posts to Halloween. May he rest in peace and I guess his family will be at peace too…😔

even though the shock has not worn off, I've thought more and really wanted to offer a better memoriam about Alan. I shared this on Alan's facebook page so his other friends and family know what he meant to us here.

Alan has been the brightest spot in our online support group for several years now. After seeing him and chatting with him in our twice a month google meets; watching him and Charley (his cat) getting set up in his new place; texting with him through my husband's recent bypass surgery; answering his texts checking up on us; and seeing too many pix of his legs as he sat on his balcony reading graphic novels, I'm really going to miss him.

Having lost too many people very close to me, I can only offer my sincere condolences to Alan's family and other friends. I know condolences and sympathies don't make any of this any better; but in your sad times remembering Alan know that he touched hearts with people around the world and was a welcome, sunny spot in our lives.

ojo.            Thanks for sharing Leatherman I guess you and Jim, shared lots have experiences with him. I wish I could’ve had more time to get to know him better although, reading his post I could tell that he had a great sense of humor. How difficult has to be for people living with mental issues. I wanted to learn from him, to try to help others on these formus but it was impossible. He will be missed…R.I.P.

Ps. for all of those nearly diagnosed and others, we are here for you and obviously do not hesitate in sick professional help. Feel free to p.m. me or other long time survivors for support someone to talk to.… Hugs hugs.

Alan had a wicked sense of humor and made every call & chat we had a blast. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this terrible news.

Quote
Adrian "Alan" George
July 3, 1982 — November 13, 2024

We bid a fond and lighthearted farewell to Adrian "Alan" A. George, who was born on the 3rd of July in 1982 in Farilea, West Virginia, and left us on the 13th of November, 2024. A truly unique spirit, Alan was a funny, smart, witty, and creative individual who was adored by all who were privileged to him. He lived most of his life in Florida before making his home in Boston, Massachusetts, where he made a name for himself as a highly regarded financial accountant at Paxera Health.

Alan was a man of many passions. He loved a good murder mystery, watching episodes of "Murder She Wrote" and "Columbo" on replay. A comic book enthusiast, he enjoyed drawing and sketching, and was a devoted fan of horror films. He also took pleasure in spending time with his cat Charley, meeting friends and family for drinks, and cooking and sharing recipes. He was a loyal LA Dodgers fan, a loyalty inherited from his father.

Beyond his personal interests, what mattered most to Alan was raising awareness about mental health, a cause close to his heart. He never met a stranger and had an uncanny ability to cultivate lifelong friendships. He was a superior conversationalist, never one to shy away from interjecting his opinions. His brainy intellect, charming personality, quick wit, dynamic sense of humor, and awe-inspiring bluntness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. In the words of Dr. Seuss, "To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world," and Alan was certainly the world to many.

Preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Frances George, Alan leaves behind many loving friends and family who will forever cherish his memory.

In the words of one of his favorite characters, Columbo, "Just one more thing" - Alan, you were loved and you will be dearly missed.

ojo.           Thanks for sharing Michael. I feel guilty for not participating at least in one of his peer support calls, even though he invited me because he thought that I could be helpful sharing my story. I don’t like I said, I never had the chance to do it although, I am glad that I met him at least once in one of the spiritual gatherings. He was a good guy and he would be missed…R.I.P.

Don't apologize as this is amazing and it's the first time I smiled all week.

"spiritual gatherings" I know Alan would have been pissing himself laughing at calling the for shits and giggles monthly shit show gathering "spiritual"  ;D Thank you.

Alan really will be missed and I'm struggling to be on the forum at the moment. I am normally here because I want to be here and want to help,  but for the first time ever, I'm only here as I am required to be here because I committed to it.

ojo.           @Jim Allen…I’m glad I made you smile, but it wasn’t me, I think was Alan because I was dictating the post to my cell phone because as you know I’m legally blind. What I dictated was “virtual gathering and the “spirit of Alan typed  spiritual.

Come on Jim, I know that Alan wouldn’t like us to be sad, on the contrary, he would like us to keep supporting and helping our peers, you know? Peer support call…let’s celebrate his life and honor his death…”spiritual” hugs from Alan and me and let’s keep doing what you do best, supporting and teaching us…resignation, he is in a better place, poor of us that we are still here

Ps. Sorry for my typos

Way to young to die. My condolences to his friends and family. May he rest in peace.

Ojo.               Alan’s story is even more meaningful because of the challenges he faced. Living with mental health struggles is a constant battle, yet he made an impact on those around him. His life showed a quiet courage, facing inner storms that many cannot imagine.

His passing reminds us of how important compassion is, and how much we should value human connections—especially with those fighting invisible battles

              Ojo.          AI generate d NumberGuy82

Between laughter and shadows, his truth was hidden,
a soul fighting in a world full of anxiety, unbidden.
Named NumberGuy82, he called himself so,
but inside, a weight only he could know.

Each attempt to escape, a silent cry,
but peace never came, though he tried.
In his mind, wars that no one could see,
and though he smiled, he sometimes longed to be free.

The days slid by like shadows in the light,
and he, seeking answers, fought on through the night.
At times it seemed everything was in place,
but in his eyes, a void he couldn’t erase.

Now he’s gone, and the emptiness stays,
but his memory lives on in the echoes of days.
NumberGuy82, a name the wind takes,
but his pain is part of the thoughts we can’t shake.

Maybe he found peace where there’s no more fight,
but here, in our hearts, his absence is bright.
May his soul find what it could never find here,
and in its rest, may it have no more fear.

As you guys know, I've only found out tonight. I can't put into words what this group meant to me, but especially Alan, who made sure to check in with me every once in a while. I always saw his posts on Instagram, thought he was doing fine. I feel terrible. If it's any consolation, he made a difference to a person from a country most people can't even pronounce so in a way, he was the Angelina Jolie to my Malawi. Has the funeral passed? Is there anything we can do to help the family?
