HIV Prevention and Testing > Do I Have HIV?

Possible HIV symptom

(1/1)

Hello2276:
Hey I recently went cruising on about 3/7/23 and had unprotected oral and anal sex (top) with another man. And as of 3/14/23 I noticed I’ve been feeling lightheaded and a shaky feeling throughout my whole body and it’s been going on everyday all day since then. I went and got tested for STI on 3/17/23 and hiv on 3/18/23 and I have never been this terrified before. Is this a possible sign of early HIV? This is all I can think about everyday all day. I’ve been on google self diagnosing myself and all of sudden I kinda been feeling like I slept on my neck wrong as well but I didn’t. Is this a early sign of an swollen lymph nobe??? Please help

"Oral" well, kissing and rimming isn't HIV risk, and neither would be receiving a blowjob.

Receiving a blowjob lacks the conditions required for acquiring HIV; thus, it makes sense that after 40+ years of this pandemic in terms of BJs, there hasn't been a single documented case of HIV transmission to an insertive partner (the person being "sucked"), and you will not be the worlds first.

As for giving a blowjob, the mouth generally lacks a route for HIV to infect, and saliva also neutralises HIV by damaging the receptors needed to infect human cells. It's such a minute HIV risk that it doesn't warrant HIV concern or testing outside the standard yearly screening.

Yeah, condomless intercourse would be an HIV risk, to know your HIV status, test six weeks post this potential exposure with a blood-draw (lab) HIV antibody test. The result at this time will rarely change, and retesting at three months generally isn't needed.

No, not from the encounter posted here, and it's not HIV-specific. See your healthcare provider and treat whatever is making you unwell.

No, and even if your lymph node did swell they can and do swell for plenty of common issues. When you see your healthcare provider about the other issues don't forget to mention the sore neck.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Kind regards

Jim

Stop googling, it will just feed your fears. Googled a while back about a headache, and it said I had a brain tumour, thankfully it was just a hangover.  ;)

Just get tested at the appropriate time, see your healthcare provider and treat the other issues, hope you feel better soon, and in the meantime, focus on living your life as normal.
