So dizzy on Truvada. How long does the dizzyness last?
« on: July 27, 2010, 11:09:59 am »
Today is my second day of Truvada, I took the pill an hour ago and I feel so dizzy.

Does the dizziness last all day, or just a few hours?
anything I can do to feel less dizzy? I took it with food.

Dizziness is listed as one of the side effects, I've never really gotten dizzy on it so i cant speak to if/how long it takes to go away.

You might condsider taking your Truvada at night so you can sleep through the dizziness.

There's no way to answer your question, mg1000.  I've gotten dizzy from it, but it's been sporadic (like only once ever couple of months) and the duration of the episode brief.  Aside from that, my own experience from a multitude of HIV meds (I think I've been on about 18 of them) is that any side effects experienced are rougher during the first 4-6 weeks and then quiet down.

I like WillyWump's idea of taking it at night. I took it today at 11AM. How can I start taking it at night? If I take it 3 hours later each day and work my way down to nighttime, would that be ok?

If you want to change your dosing time, you should take it sooner over a couple of days; i.e. early in the morning tomorrow and the day after, then right before bed the second day.
It's a complex world

What is your 3rd Drug?  Some drugs are better on an empty stomach or with a light snack.

I assume you mean Atripla and not just Truvada?

Atripla is a 3-drug combo that contains Truvada.

Truvada by itself is not enough to control HIV.

Read this -- he's on PEP.  He probably should have this thread folded into his Am I Infected thread, so I will PM the mod.

He didn't even have a proper HIV risk in the first place and should not even be on truvada in the first place.

It's all painfully clear now. ;)

mg1000: Dizziness can happen with Truvada but it's not that common. At any rate it should get better and my advice to you is just suck it up (the dizziness not the cock and cum).

Despite others' opinions I do think if a guy came in your mouth many times in the course of a few hours and you had sores in your mouth that there is a risk of transmission.

Do you know for sure if you were HIV-negative before this marathon crystal session?

I was doing crystal meth all night which makes your mouth really dry and get sores and my mouth was practically marinating in hiv positive semen all night.
People keep saying "Your saliva kills it" but I didnt have saliva all night, my mouth was dry white spit from the crystal. I kept drinking water to wet my mouth because I had no spit.
Even if my risk was low its still a risk and its enough for me to want to protect myself.

thanks for listening to me. Yes I was negative a month ago when I checked.
Im feeling better now, so I guess the dizziness lasts a few hours. Ill start moving towards taking it at night.

What is the third drug. You can't be just on truvada.

I thought PEP was usually with 3 drugs but I guess Truvada alone is sometimes fine.

Well yes dear, that's why it's marketed as MTV (Meth, Tenofovir, and Viagra) in a zip loc baggie before a circuit party.

I am sorry mg1000 but this line made me literally laugh out loud. I don't mean to make light of your situation but I just had to say it and I think we have all been in your shoes before or else we wouldn't be here. Anyways I am on Isentress/Truvada and the dizziness lasted about two nights however I had about 3 days of Atripla under my belt prior to switching so I guess about 5 days total. Just be lucky the doctor didn't give you Sustiva...

because of the dizziness, i take the truvada in the evening.  after 3 or 4 weeks, most of the dizziness has disappeared
