Deep in the Heart of Texas

Since I've returned to Texas from San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon, I've been trying to sort out my experience and feelings regarding the AMG.  I'm not sure I have anything unique to share in this post that others have not already shared.  Overall, the experience of meeting and spending time with all of the attendees was amazing.  I'm so happy I attended.  I'm so happy I got to meet all of the attendees in person.  I am so thankful for everyone's kindness and friendship.  I've never seen so many people get along so well.  And I was so sad having to say goodbye to everyone on Monday and Tuesday.

I feel much closer to all of you.  And for me, that is saying a lot, since I have always been pretty much a "loner", ever since I was a kid (which is a whole 'nother story).  That's something I've been trying to change for a long time now, and so it was definitely a "stretch" for me to attend.  Except for wishing that I engaged more deeply with more of the folks who attended, I just don't see how the experience could have been better for me.  I hope I was able to give all of you even 1/10 of what you gave me.

I'd be remiss if I did not thank the folks who organized and coordinated the event, such as Anniebc for the Memorial Service, Allanq for his wonderful walking tours, and Dennis for tons of hard work.  I am humbled by your hard work and generosity. 

Lastly, if anyone is wondering whether or not to attend a future gathering, my answer is an emphatic "yes".

Henry,

It was wonderful to meet you as well.  Like you, I tend to be a "loner" and it is difficult to mix in with groups of new people.  AMG has been such a blessing to me because it has put me in contact with wonderful, caring people with whom I share a great deal in common.  The struggle is more manageable for me.  I, too, wish I spent more time in conversation with more people.  I really need to take advantage of the opportunity.  This is my second AMG (I was even quieter the first time!) so I hope to be even more outgoing the next time.

In the meantime, it was wonderful to meet some new faces and yours was certainly one of them!

I'm certainly not a loner and really enjoy meeting new people.  Henry is one of the nicest people one could meet.  I think he was a bit reserved initially, but he really fell right in after the first day.  I certainly hope to see him, along with the rest of the gang, at the next AMG.  I'd also recommend that others try to attend one, if it's at all possible.

Getting the chance to meet you was the same for me.  I'm glad you took the chance to step outside your comfort level and come to SF, the gathering was much richer with the addition of that wonderful Southern drawl.
