Has anyone heard of losing SSD (Federal Disability benefits)?
« on: December 24, 2016, 01:11:15 pm »
Hi,

I am new to Poz Forums and SO HAPPY to have found yall.

I have various questions that I will post on  the appropriate Forums.  For this Forum, I am interested to hear if anyone has heard of people losing their Disability and the Medicare coverage that comes with it?  I was granted Disability coverage in 1996.  I was in NYC at the time and it was quite a process.  The counselors at NYC LGBT Community Center were urging people like me to apply and I was fortunate to be accepted.

By people like me, I mean :
I was Under Employed and had NO health insurance.
I had no real Income history so had not built up any meaningful Retirement / SSI portfolio.
My T-Cell numbers were Dismal, along with all other indicators available at the time.

I have since moved to a town outside of New Orleans, LA and my Federal Disability coverage followed me here.  The State benefits are no where near as generous here as they were in NYC, but I am taken care of and greatful.

NOW, I am TERRIFIED...The new Administration that will come in January...Does anyone out there think there is cause for concern?  Am I worrying myself sick over nothing or do people actually LOSE their Federal Government Coverage? I don't know if that is a rare or common or if there is anything I can do to prevent it from happening.

My "numbers" are much better than they were in 1995-96.  My health is not.

If anyone has any experience, please share.

Best, Tom

No I would not worry.  A lot of people have been on disability thru the Bush Jr. years and  had no problems.   They can't just cut you off, all they can do is ask you to re-certify, which they say they can do after 10 years but I never heard of it happening to anyone.  Plus you are not well so don't stress out.    I also see a commercial for a law firm that says that people over 50 have special rules to be qualified easier, so if you are in that category that's fine.   I don't know if SSD is tied into Medicare, but  they would know that you are on meds and get lab tests and have doctor visits.
Pray God you can cope
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

I think you risk losing your benefit more if you try to return to work.  They tell you that you can work and keep some of your benefits, but then they will try to cut you from the program.
Pray God you can cope

I know you have a lot of strength left.
