I had sex with an ex boyfriend n found out he was hiv positive. i tested poz for herpes AND gonnerea from this one encounter with this man. i used a condom, but obviously it did not do the best job since i got TWO stds from this man. i need a lot of help because i have a daughter and this was outside my marriage. i told my husband and we have not had sex at all. i went to get test at 2 weeks which was neg. i then went to get another test 6 weeks post exposure again negative. anyone know how accurate a negative is at 6 weeks???

If you used a condom you were protected from HIV. Now if you also gave the guy oral, then possibly that is where you got your herpes and gonnerea.

Hmmm. If you used a condom and it didn't break (you'd know if it did) then you HIV is an issue for you even if your sexual partner was positive. Was there any problem with the condom that you know of?
The vast majority of people who are going to test positive for HIV do so at six weeks. Nevertheless for those who've been exposed, a test at 12-13 weeks is still needed to be sure. Oh, and read our Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0).

Herpes and gonorrhea are much more easily transmitted than hiv. Herpes only needs skin to skin contact and with gonorrhea, getting small amounts of infected fluid on even the outer area of your vagina can transmit the bacteria to you. Hiv is very different in this regard as it is a very fragile virus that is not able to infect once it is outside its host.
Your six week negative hiv result is a very good indication of your true hiv status. You need to test again at the 12-13 week mark for a conclusive negative result.
And by the way, I don't mean to stir things up with your husband and you, but can you be absolutely certain that your husband didn't bring the herpes and/or gonorrhea into your relationship? Both can be present without symptoms. Maybe he should test too.

Thanks for all the advice and help. I would like to say that all of you are commended for what you do. I am going to def get my 13 week test. And Ann, you are ok to ask about my husband. I am positive that my husband did not give me the gonnerhea or herpes, i had been tested for everything about 4 weeks before I f-ed up and slept with my ex, so I know he passed it on to me. I guess i should give him a big THANK YOU for that. I guess he wanted to make sure I never forget him (manic laughter). Herpes sucks, (i haven't told my husband I have it yet-but we are abstaining from sex) but i can deal with it. My 6 week hiv test negative is encouraging! Thanks!

Yes, the 6 week negative is very encouraging. Since the average time to seroconversion is 22 days and most will seroconvert within 4-6 weeks, the likelihood is you're going to continue to test negative.
I don't see that you responded to being asked if a condom was used. Assuming it was not, then the 6 weeks negative is especially important and encouraging.
