Not only did TS Lee not bring us any rain, but he caused the winds to wip up to a sustained 20-40mph over the past 2 days causing the massive wildfires to pop up.

The pics are from yesterday and today in and around Austin. There are something like 30 wildfires in central and south Texas right now. 300 homes were lost yesterday just outside Austin. Bastrop State Park, a beautiful piney woods area, was completely destroyed. :(

Here in San Antonio we have 2 fires working, mostly contained. an entire subdivision has been evacuated here. There is an awful burnt stench hanging in the air, and occasional clouds of smoke drifting over the neighborhood.

WE NEED RAIN!

On the upside, today was the first day in 2 months that temps have dropped below 100, so at least the firefighters a catching a slight break.

Creighton/Basquo mentioned on FB that one fire is only about three miles away from where he and Santi are. All of y'all be careful! :o

and get outside and do that naked rain dance before it's too late! :D

keeping y'all in my thoughts for some rain SOON,

I've been thinking of you while reading the various reports about the Texas fires.

If I remember correctly your son is a firefighter in Austin.  Hopefully he's staying safe.

I also think of Basquo and Curtis (though I think he lives right in the city), but I believe Basquo is outside of Austin, hopefully not near the danger areas.

Lord what a crazy year this has been.

I'll sign off and go outside and do my raindance for you all.

:( That sucks for everyone in TX. NOAA's web site shows about the largest "red flag" warning in one place I think I've ever seen.

ps: we have a flood watch here right now, and it's supposed to rain every day until Friday ::) We had 600% of normal monthly rain in August.

Yeah. check this out...http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/.

Also, the relative humidity is 4%, which is ridiculous. Basically that indicates that there is zero moisture in the air. It's a fuckin tinderbox. 300 Homes lost around Austin.

The winds are due to die down tonight, so that will help to quell some of these fires. We hope.

@RAB- he's a Firefighter/Paramedic and he was recalled off vacation yesterday to help with the fires. The good thing is he is being held back off the front lines somewhat and is involved with medical triaging and such. They are literally giving firefighters IV's fluids there at the sight to keep them hydrated and sending them back into the fires.

Stay safe Willy ... we have the high winds and rain here in Birmingham . My neighborhood has had over 7 inches of rain and the wind is still up to 50 mi per hour gust , some trees are down on my street .

I will take this over wild fires anyday though .

No, you need to re-size images before uploading them as an avatar -- as it is now all I do is right-click on your avatar and it opens to the full size image. After that I pull out a bottle of poppers and a large dildo and I have a party.

460+ homes destroyed at last report. We are safe for now, but as Leatherman said there was one fire scarily close to our house, about 3 miles away, right next to a propane business. My uncle, roughly 35 miles from us, has had to evacuate not only he and my aunt but several horses. We don't know what's happened to their house and barns but their former house a mile from there is gone. We can see the smoke, but we can't smell it. Santi just went outside and he can't see any glow.

As long as the wind stays we are going to be okay, and even if it does come this way we may have to evacuate but I don't think the house is in danger. We are in the middle of a subdivision and there's little grass to burn, plus I will be watering the lawn and fence and house until they drag me out. And if our house burns, rest assured that the new Formula One race track is going with it. That's probably the reason God has sent the fires, comr to think of it. The sound of Formula One starves the Angels.

Thanks everyone for your support!  :-*

I was out in Del Rio this weekend, communing with nature, and I return home this evening to find out that Austin is surrounded with fires.  Spicewood, Pflugerville, Steiner Ranch, Liberty Hill (where I lived up until last year), Dripping Springs, Leander, and that monstrous fire in Bastrop.  Serious devastation.  Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, everyone.

Well I have been in retreat with those Godly heterosexual examples of Christian manhood Representative Mark Foley, the Fabulously Reverend Ted Haggard and Mr Andrew Sullivan. We've been conducting research into the phenomenon of rectal demons which we believe may well be the cause of the hobby of homosexuality.

Our studies will take some more weeks but I'll be sure to report back to y'all about our findings and Andrew ever gives up the camera there will be instructional videos to boot. :)

But to the matter at hand.

Clearly Governor Perry has angered the LORD by trying to be the next George W Bush, which is why fire has been sent to punish Texas.

And evolution. Someone, somewhere has been teaching the devilish theory of Charles Darwin in some public school in the Lone Star State. Most likely in Houston which I understand is currently ruled over by a brutal Lesbian abortion lover.

Now it's true that I've never been to Texas but I've seen most of the first series of Friday Night Lights and I'm pretty sure I got the gist of things. Let's face it, on that basis I'm more Texan that Dubya ever could have hoped to be.

So bow your heads in prayer, motherfuckers.

Creator God,

We thank you for rebuking the formerly Great State of Texas with a plague of Hell Fire. May those huge hat wearing hicks see this conflagration as a taste of what is to come if they don't change their sinful ways.

What they've done wrong is a bit of a mystery because they seem to follow all your commandments and observe the Bible to the letter. Even the bits that contradict the other bits.

But nevertheless clearly you are pissed off and we get the message. We may not understand it but we get it just the same.

So please burn the poor bits and save the righteous white folks, and just as much of the Mexican help as you can spare, because those lawns will surely grow back.

In Jesus Name We Pray!

Amen.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have to show Representative Foley how to mix up a retention enema in the proper fashion.

Well son, don't be too sure. That lightning bolt might just have been the LORD's way of saying

"I'm keen for you get up here and join me in Glory, boy!"

I'm sure He won't miss next time and you will be blessed with a firey entry to Heaven.

There must be a reason that He takes out His frustrations on His most faithful followers in the Red states yet leaves the unchurched baby killing sinners of the Blue states untouched.

Probably the same reason that Cathylick Popes live to such a ripe old age. Jesus just can't stand them in his Holy Presence. :)

Things seem to be getting better; nothing headed our way and fires more contained by the hour. My uncle's homestead was spared--I didn't know that he had little time to get out, and he had to leave behind some of his livestock, but they all are unharmed, we've just learned. There have been two fatalities, though I don't know the details, but apparently they were homeowners not firefighters. Just so sad and tragic.

I've been reading some of Santi's posts on FB regarding the awful fires all over Texas.  I see some folks are watering down the homes, trying anything.  It is really scary and tragic.   As Mike says the east coast is getting more rain than we need, New Jersey rivers are flooding, I know it's cliche but wish we could send it down your way Creighton, Santi, Curtis, Henry, Will, Nick and all our Texas guys.

Go safe.

We have a very dire situation in our state today -- epic flooding not seen for 40 years (http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/news/story/54815/pennsylvania-susquehanna-flood.asp). Just in Philadelphia we've had mud slides, river flooding, six rail lines closed, closed roads, etc. We've already had 3" above the normal yearly total for rain, and and we're really got 1/3 of the year left to go. There were times last night that it was coming down 2"/hr.

It's much, much worse up and down the Susquehanna in the middle of the state.

Oh, and did I mention that radar shows yet more rain coming?

I have never seen as much rain at one time as we got from that same storm you guys are getting . My front yard is on a slight hill and it still flooded . I have a truck load of 45 bags of mulch to go unload now waiting in my drive to relace what washed away . Still better than fire I suppose .

I lived in Binghamton, N.Y., for 10 years, and the whole area is experiencing unprecedented flooding.  It rains there a lot anyway -- but not all at once like it has in the past few weeks.

Ah, here's another thing you Southern girls didn't have -- up here we're not just getting moisture from TS Lee, but also Hurricane Katia is off the coast and evidently according to NOAA (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/post/washington-dc-flooding-whats-behind-the-rain-train/2011/09/08/gIQACgJFCK_blog.html?wprss=capital-weather-gang) is combing with that to feed high level moisture into a conveyor belt of sorts.

Yes, I'm reading it's the worst going back to before when the flood wall was build 80 years ago. Tonight will be very bad for people until rivers crest in the early morning.

J/k.  Usually we don't get many days above 80..this year it was in the 60's until mid july-ish. Its now September and its still 80 degrees!  That is very unsual.  Its usually back to the 60's and raining by now.  Its a heat wave!

Only four died? We've had more people croak in the Northeast from flooding.

Hence your thread fails.

ps: as far as my Perry rant goes, previous to these fires Eric Cantor (cheered on, no doubt, by Texas Republican congressman) was threatening to hold disaster aid for the Northeast hostage unless offset by budget cuts.

Not that you pay attention to such things unless a twink is streaking through your senator's office...
