Hey, I did my bit and put up my rainbow heart and red ribbon avatar for the occasion!

By the way, I'm loving your look in the video. You look just like a homeless guy who used to sleep on a bench at 99th and Broadway back in 1984 when I lived in NYC in an SRO hotel at the same intersection. ;D

Happy AIDS DAY everybody!

I am starting AIDS day with some fresh orange juice.  Our neighbor brought us a HUGE bag of oranges from FL, so I will just juice a few as a treat this morning.  Yesterday I picked up my Atripla and did realize how lucky I am to actually have access to these pills.  So many do not.

Off to start the day now: exercise, haircut, shopping, then a funeral to attend in the afternoon.  Cheers!!

Odd, I think both Ann and Matty have said I sound like Truman Capote. I even made my voice different, or tried to.

My therapist says I'm just a very expressive individual. ;)

I would make another video but I have a poppers headache.

Thanks Ms. P!

Happy AIDS Day to you also and to all of my other poz friends out there -

maybe someday we will look back and say "remember when..." until that time, I couldn't think of a better group of people to go through this thing called "HIV/AIDS" with.

I think so too. I was reading the same thread on the LTS forum and it made me cry a bit. I don't know what's losing someone to AIDS, but I get so sad to think many did. I truly wish one day we can remember all of this just as something from the past, so we can spend the day only to honor those we lost.

I fucking hate World AIDS Day. I fucking hate spending more time than i already do trotting out the faces and the names of the good, kind, brave people who are lost to me.

Yes I play the game of putting a Goddamn red ribbon on my FB page and encourage testing and all that. I am blessed by people who give me cyber hugs and say kind things.

But at the end of the day I spend the evening with Penguin/Kate, Christine, James/Gecko, Tim/Moffie. I visit the photos, the scant few voicemails, the "wombling home" poster, the Mickey Mouse Birthday party, the ferrets that Lisa, sweet abused and tortured Lisa, will never play with again.

It tears me from stem to fucking stern, every year, every time.

I'm beginning to think I've just seen too Goddamned much, and this is absolutely not a universe I expected to be trapped in.

So yeah, thats where I am today.

Today I had a weird chest pain while I was jogging, it lasted only a second,
but a strange thought crossed my mind: it would be so weird to die on an HIV day  :o

LOL!  I thought of the unabomber, too, before I saw your reply.  I'm going to have nightmares tonight.  That could be something out of a movie where a madman infects several people and then leaves them this message.  CSI- Philly maybe?  The demographic for CSI would eat that shit up.

I have read thread about Kate/Penguin and her brother. I cried after I read her memorial/birthday thread. I could only imagine how others feel losing someone close like her or many others who are no longer here. I don't want to be sad but its hard not to..

Odd, I think both Ann and Matty have said I sound like Truman Capote. I even made my voice different, or tried to.

Odd, indeed, since the first person I thought you looked like is Larry Kramer, and I especially thought you sounded exactly like him as well--as I've heard him in non-public situations.

after spending time here and on FB this morning, dwelling in the past and crying about what was, I spent this afternoon putting the finishing touches together for the big "Catawba Care 2nd Annual WAD Video Competition Award Event".

We spent 2 hrs tonight passing out literature with our friends from TellThem! and ONE; playing professional, in-house produced, and student submitted videos about HIV/AIDS; along with an event photobooth, music, AIDS-awareness slideshow, and a Q&A with prizes before awarding the top 3 student-produced videos with money prizes.

We had a crowd of over 300 Winthrop University and York Tech students, not to mention most of the Catawba Care staff, and a couple handfuls of clients/volunteers. The technical parts of the show went much better than our first effort last year, the kids were much more engaged and seemed to learn a lot (via the questions they were asking), and I heard a lot of compliments on how entertaining and enjoyable the evening was.

And we handed out a slew of condoms, so there should be a lot of safer sex going down on campus tonight and this weekend. ;)

I'm dead-tired now (and slightly worried that instead of just feeling like crap from the f-ing depression I felt today, that I might also be coming down with something - pneumonia maybe!!) but had an excellent time and feel pleased with the efforts we put forth reaching out to the community tonight on World AIDS Day teaching them about the global and local issues surrounding HIV and what they can do to help and to protect themselves.

I love those re-posts too.  Recently, there was the one circulating concerning those who had illnesses that aren't recognizable to the outside world.  It listed various diseases.  I saw it posted over and over.  Suddenly, one of my "friends" re-posted it omitting HIV/AIDS from the list of ailments.

We had a heated private discussion about it and he really has lowered himself on my relevancy scale.

I think the one that hurts the most is Bobbi/Maggie. Her suicide was a damning indictment of the American health care situation. It breaks my heart every time I think of her, and I was thinking of her and all the others you list yesterday. A sad evening indeed.

The Incas used to roast them for food. Maybe I should put this in the Wumpy Nutrition thread:

I have read thread about Kate/Penguin and her brother. I cried after I read her memorial/birthday thread. I could only imagine how others feel losing someone close like her or many others who are no longer here. I don't want to be sad but its hard not to..

Happy AIDS day y'all!!

I haven't met Kate/Penguin either, but I've also read her story and it made heartbroken. So young and beautiful, and judging from her posts, very kind too. The kind of girl I'd love to take out and enjoy watching a sunset with. Life ain't fair.

Quite simply Katie was the best person this forum ever produced.

When she died, we all died. Nothing has ever been the same since.

It's nice to hear she is remembered as such. If anything, at least her memory lives on and she still touches people who have never even met her while on this forum, like me, Since2005, and I'm sure many others. Few people can leave such a legacy behind.

You know, I would forgo ten lifetimes to have Katie back for just an hour.

That said, it's very nice to have you do her honour. :-*
