I just tested poz...scared & depressed
« on: July 30, 2017, 08:34:25 am »
I am still having trouble accepting this, I haven't told anyone. Keeping it to myself makes it worse for me, but I can't imagine telling my family...I'm scared!,I was diagnosed on the 8th of June 2017 1month in, got tested for student visa medicals for an application in Australia as I am an Nursing student.

I just finished my Nursing Diploma & was looking forward to starting my bachelors, now I'm HIV positive. I feel my dreams are shattered, will I get that visa?I don't know what's going to happen if I get sent back home,I'm from Zimbabwe. I've been in Australia for 2years 8months now, I got infected by my ex partner in Western Australia. I trusted him but unfortunately he was sleeping around, I wish I had never meet him but ohwell I'm HIV positive now filled with regret. My baseline CD4 was 121, 11% VL 120,226.Going for my next appointment on the 7th of August. Praying for undetectable, maybe they might grant methe visa...I'm so scared!

Thank you for the welcome. I feel better letting it out on here. Don't have the strength to tell family and friends yet. I was started on Genvoya on the 20th of June.

My appointment on the 7th of August will determine how the treatment is going.

Is there any chance I can get UD from a 120,226 VL after 1 month of treatment?

I now live in Melbourne with family, left Perth because I couldn't stay there anymore(emotional stress), was living alone. I just hope I will be able to regain the drive I had for life before the diagnosis. Feeling really low & depressed at the moment.
I'm also on vit D supplements since the 20th of June and started iron supplements on the 26th of July (due to low haemoglobin levels), had a bit of bloating in the beginning with Genvoya but now no more sideeffects.

I will update on my results on Monday, progress with my visa & nursing studies. Thank you for this forum, feels good to share & let it out. :)

I'm a 33year old female, never been married & no kids. I wonder if I will ever meet someone now, with this poz status? :-[

Tesh.

You are still digesting the news, this is pretty common.

Your positive HIV status changes nothing in terms of love and having kids if that is what you want, we have tones of members here who fell in love and had kids and are happy. HIV does not change that in life and is not a barrier to this happening.

Take things one step at a time for now, digest the news, stick to the treatment and focus on getting your visa sorted.

Best of luck.

Jim

Hi Tesh, :) I'm new to this Forum but not new to hiv(26yrs poz).
I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but you can have kids and have relationship, all is NOT lost even though sometimes we think/feel it is.  I too live in Australia (south aust) and I too contracted hiv through the father of my son.  My son is healthy and negative.  I used to worry about it a lot.  Just wanted to let you know that you can still do all you wanted to do.  If you ever want to talk, feel free.  :)

Thank you 😊 and welcome to the forums, it's a good place to be... :).I am still adjusting to this new life, I have good and bad days but things seem to be falling into place slowly but surely. I am hopeful...

I am happy to hear you're also in Australia, I would love to chat about how life has been for you being poz in Australia.  :)

Hello everyone Tesh here, I haven’t posted in a long time, hope everyone is doing well. I’ve been really well I managed to get my student visa, I’m in my 3rd year of nursing school now. In terms of HIV my viral load has been undetectable for 2years now, still taking Genvoya. I’m feeling really strong, living life to the fullest. Thank you for this forum it gave me hope to keep pushing 😊❤️

Yeah, get yourself a student membership of the Nurses Union https://www.anfiuwp.org.au/  They have a legal/ paralegal section that can assist around registration and maybe even visa issues.  It will be better to join before you graduate that afterwards. Student membership should be free.
