I also found this cute video entitled Happy Birthday Ms. P.

I know your P stands for Philicia but I could not resist the video title, cuteness and the club music beat.   :D

Hope you enjoy your day.

I was hoping someone would just say: Hey sugartits, it's been a while since you've been out to the bars.

Happy Birthday!!  I hope it was a good one.  Someone said you're 60??  Seriously, you'll probably be like "Karen Walker" in the series finale of Will and Grace.  They flash forward many years, but she still looks the same.  Hasn't aged, even though she was the one boozing, taking drugs, partying, and had many lovers.  I believe I remember you saying you never watched the show (?), so you won't get the reference.

Actually some friends took me out for drinks at a gay bar, but a gay bar here on a Monday night usually consists of a half dozen men over the age of 55 propping up a bar with half of functioning liver. It made me appreciate the fact that at the age of 47 I am not someone that spends life like that.

However, I will be going out for a more proper birthday dinner on Friday :) Thanks for the warm wishes.

Uncles, eh?

Happy Birthday

LOL, omg... you're right, it was Uncle's. I'd actually never been in there, just walked by it a lot. I was at a meeting last night and they took me there on a whim.

... and for those that care: http://www.yelp.com/biz/uncles-philadelphia

Oh well, I was hoping for lines of coke and meth'd out gay-for-pay hustlers at 12th Air Command... sorry, I mean iCandy! Actually it's still called "12th Scare Command"

(also via yelp)

A breakdown of the bar:

The first floor, AKA: The Library, is proliferated with dirty old men drinking shitty white zin and retail queens looking for a sugar daddy.  They have (or used to have) karaoke near the back bar.

The second floor: The "dance floor" is "meh," at best.  Most of the time, it's completely dead or packed with tons of Baby Gays who probably pregamed with all the Midori in their mom's liquor cabinet.  There's a few pool tables and both bars are open during the week; on Saturdays, they turn them into non-alcoholic bars.

The third floor: They have a small deck on which you can smoke; since the smoking ban, they have left the French doors unlocked year-round.  The bar isn't too bad and the owner usually puts the better bartenders upstairs (although he almost always leaves John - one of the best guys - on the first floor), but you must check out the high art!  I don't know what I would do if my local watering hole didn't have a cheap lamp that was probably bought at Spencer Gifts circa 1996!!

The decor is tacky and resembles what I'd describe as "cokehead remodeling."  None of the decorating is cohesive in any way whatsoever.  The owner apparently has a fixation on bad blue lighting that makes many of the more fair-skinned bartenders resemble ghosts (think Casper, not Patrick Swayze).  Half of the 2nd floor actually looks fairly nice, with a recently remodeled dance floor.  The other half?  You might as well start humming "dueling banjos" and look over your shoulder for the rest of The Warlocks.

LOL, that's some funny shit.  It sounds like it hasn't changed at all.  I was dating a guy a little over a decade ago who got transferred with his job to Filthy and I came down on Amtrak to visit him one weekend and we met in that place for a cocktail before dinner at some swanky Thai place.  I felt like I'd stepped into a time warp... and apparently from that Yelp blurb, I was right since it sounds exactly still the same as I remember it   ???

Now spill Miss P: tell us how much fun you really had there as we know you'll be going back on the regular.

In Filthy's defense, the "main" club/bar for the queers (Woody's (http://www.woodysbar.com/)) just finished a total top-to-bottom (*cough*) renovation and I was surprised that it looked as good as it did, though I've not seen the dance floor rehab upstairs yet, just the main bar area downstairs. Not to mention if you've not been here in a decade, 13th Street which is where Woody's is located is no longer humdrum run down, but one of the epicenters of urban gentrification. Why just last night I walked by Fish (http://fishphilly.com/) at 13th and Locust, noticed it was new and expected with a name like Fish and in that location it was a badly named lesbian bar, and no -- it's a very upscale seafood oriented restaurant aimed at a general audience. In fact, I can't wait to go in and have grilled octopus with speck and truffled spaetzle with skate. Just last month this was still wannabe-fag-hip Q Lounge (previously Bump). And the run down building where you used to be able to score gay porn has been magically transformed into the ultra chic Odd Fellows Building -- all pricey lofts upstairs, a yoga studio on part of the ground floor, and a very chic coffee place in the other -- I just had coffee there yesterday.

Oh, and right next to Woody's where the run down/abandoned 1970's vibe diner with the cantilevered roof is about to be transformed by Iron Chef, Jose Garces, into a sausage and beer house. The days are numbered for the North Philly queens who invade this district on weekends I suppose. We'll see come warm weather.

And Ms. P. don't forget to scrub a dab of this on. The scent will make the concierge carry you to your reserved seating and drive the wait staff mad!

To top it, your fun outing BD charges will be on the house!

I should know.

No. I was originally only hoping to make it to the Millennium celebrations, or the age of 35. Which is why once I got to that point I decided to do a lot of heroin.

Oddly, somehow I never associate Miss P with undersharing

Whatever happened to that decoupage and fisting thread?

Miss P, I keep hearing how you have an eye for style, ever since you were a young lad.  What's your view on sweater vests?  I have one that I wear sometimes (see pic below), but I keep hearing friends, comics, and political pundits making fun of Rick Santorum wearing sweater vests--calling them nerdy and out of style.  What's your take?  I didn't know where else to turn.  Please help!  Others can chime in, too.

Speaking of fashion advice, Ms. P. I also need your couture counsel:

Dress shirt?

or

Shirt dress.

I am thinking of a fun day tomorrow and believe I can pull either one off.
