Greeting card and PDF attachments in emails
« on: July 12, 2007, 05:04:46 pm »
So tired of getting SPAM junk email telling me I've gotten a greeting card from someone or an email with a PDF file attached. Between us both we get 10 to 15 emails like this daily. I'm sure it's a virus and won't open them but sure wish we could get them to stop but because they always seem to come from different names we can't set it up for SPAM or junk mail blocker. Damn hackers!

Jeff,

I just recently read theres a lot of this going around, and there's a very good chance, that this spam can contain viruses. I also believe that greetingcards.com and hallmark. com , put warnings out on this. Just continue to delete them.

I have already told most of my correspondences, that I will not accept the greeting cards that they may send.

Take care--Ray

You may be able to set up some filters in your Email  account to prevent getting this junk. Check into it.

I use the following filters in Microsoft Entourage to send these annoying e-mails straight to the "Delete" folder:

Filter 1:
If the subject contains ".pdf" send to "Delete" (or "Junk") folder

Filter 2"
If the subject contains "you've received a" send to "Delete" (or "Junk") folder

So far, these two filters have been 100% effective. Who knows what they'll come up with next in order to get around these filters.

We have seen a great increase in these over the past few weeks at work.  We subscribe to a state level filter and they say that their filtering has been catching over 2,500 unique pieces of spam per minute over the past 4 weeks.  And still several are getting through.  And yes, I'm sure that no matter how we figure out to block the spam, the spammers will figure a way around it.  There must be a load of money in that stuff out there someplace.

My internet is Comcast, and they block the spam pretty well.  I don't open anything when I don't know where it's coming from.
