Unprotected sex during her period.
« on: January 07, 2014, 05:07:12 pm »
Hey everybody first of all let me tell you that you guys are doing an excellent job on this site very helpful and insightful. Now here's my situation I did a throughout search but couldn't find a precise answer.
On november 11 of last year I had an encounter with a woman I met in California. Long story short we had sex protected most of the time and by the end condom broke I took it off (incredibly stupid STUPID idea) and continued for about 5 minutes maybe even less unprotected. What worries me the most is she was in the middle of her menstrual period and by my accounts bleeding heavily. She didnt wanted to have sex due to it but well alcohol without a doubt makes you stupid. Also later on the relationship I found out she was actually working as an escort and that she was using intravenous drugs and before we state anything I'm not judging her never have and never will I just decided not to continue a relationship based on her actions. Now is unprotected sex while on a woman's period more dangerous than while she is not bleeding? Is there any research on the matter? Any encouragement or insights would be greatly appreciated.
I have tested with a 3rd gen at a little over 5 weeks and thankfully it was negative but by God am I still going insane.... Itchy back and weird itchy bumps in my arms that come and go. Also I dont know if its the extreme stress or anxiety what but I feel somewhat lethargic goes away everytime i workout. I'm at my wits end any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You had a risk and will need to test . You can test 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm it . If this incident is your only concern you can test today for a conclusive result .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV. Some of the other STDs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid HIV infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks again.

Thanks clarifying the date for me . You can test 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm it . Since its been over 6 weeks you can test but it still must be confirmed at 3 months . You can also just test at 3 months and be done with it .

Have you ever heard about transmission throughout this manner? From the short research that I've done it seems that heterosexual transmission via women to man is extremely rare...
Do you know how accurate a 5 week test would be and thanks again I think ill wait it out until the 3 month mark. Thanks once again.

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. Most who are infected will test positive by 6 weeks. For various reasons a small number will take longer and that is why we follow the CDC recommendation to test at 3 months for a conclusive negative result.

Its somewhat of a lower risk for the insertive partner but its a risk all the same . Men become infected that way every day and its not rare by any means .

There are no shortcuts to testing and I have given you the testing window period three times now . We do not give odds or guess how risky a risk is in anything but general terms . A risk is a risk and you must test at the appropriate time for a reliable and conclusive result .
