Anxious about this encounter

I hope everyone is doing well. This is my first time submitting a post on this forum. I have done my fair share of reading and researching but I wanted a personal response as I feel like I need more clarity. I also wanted to say that I greatly appreciate all the work this community is putting in and the abundant amount of information available to us all.

I will get straight into it;

So about a week ago I had unprotected oral sex with a man I met on a dating app. I gave him oral for about 10 minutes and i'd like to add that there was a lot of precum. I also made out with him on/off for a few hours. I am quite worried about the oral sex and the deeply kissing part as he had his wisdom tooth removed 6 days before. I checked his mouth and there was no fresh blood but you never know, right? I don't recall having gaping wounds in my mouth either, although I've been having very bad jaw pain every morning.

I have read many posts in this forum and all the administrators say oral is theoretical to no risk but I am anxious ... what if my tonsils were inflamed? Does this mean I could have been infected due to my inflamed tonsils? Can you get HIV if you had a throat infection and then you performed oral? Should I be worried about the kissing part considering he had his wisdom tooth removed 6 days prior so it had not fully healed but I don't recall it bleeding either.

I'm just quite confused as some websites and doctors are saying that oral transmission is possible. Many members on this site also mention the study where no infections took place with those couples over the years when they performed unprotected oral but what about if some of those individuals had canker sores, sore throat, slightly bleeding gums? Does this increase the risk at all?

Should I get tested or be worried that I could potentially have the virus? How risky was this situation?

Kissing is not a concern and as for giving a blowjob, the mouth generally lacks a route for HIV to infect, even if you had gaping holes in your mouth saliva also acts to neutralize HIV by damaging the receptors needed to infect human cells.

It's such a minute risk that we don't even recommend specifically testing over it.

The rest of the questions are just irrelevant or overthinking things, people with a sore throat have given blowjobs before if that answers your question including those in studies.

Anyhow, move on with your life, use condoms for any intercourse and test out of standard routine yearly for STI's & HIV.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider talking to your health care provider about taking PrEP going forward as an additional layer of HIV protection.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Hi Jim,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I truly appreciate it.

However, i'm still quite worried about having inflamed tonsils, sore throat or even an infected tooth. What if I got infected through my throat? Is this possible or a risk? I know you say i'm overthinking but I'm just trying to think about the risks involved. It could potentially be a warm enough hospitable environment for HIV?

Thank you so much, Jim. You've definitely helped to clear my anxieties and worries.

I also had another encounter on the 19th of Feb where I deep throated a guy and he fully came into my mouth and I swallowed. Again, I don't recall having any bleeding gums. Maybe I had a mouth ulcer and I was suffering for sinusitis so I had mucus drip at the back of my throat. Was this a risk and is this worth testing over? I'm just worried about the throat passage.

I read your new concerns, pretty much the same as last time. To start with his claimed HIV/STI status and the fact he had a GF means nothing at all. Neither does his ethnicity or sexuality change how HIV is or is not transmitted.

The question, whether or not you had an HIV risk depends just on the activities you engaged in. 

Now I read your post and no offence intended, but some of the concerns you have would have the same precise barriers to acquiring HIV as sharing a toilet seat, using the same utensils, drinking from the same cup, and handshaking.

Anyhow, fingering, kissing, receiving oral sex is not a route for acquiring HIV and you already know that giving a blowjob is a minute risk that does not require specific HIV testing, just get tested whenever you are next normally due a routine HIV & STI screening.

Please don't ask again about these things.
