Its official!
« on: April 22, 2008, 11:39:29 pm »
I'm old and fat.

Yep, I was shopping with a friend this evening and he gave me a quizzical look as I was looking at some marked-down candles.

The conversation went like this:

Me: I like candles. It doesn't matter if they're marked down if you're going to burn them anyway.

He: That's not what I was looking at. Why do your pants ride down so low? Why don't you wear them around your waist?

Me: Because I have a gut and I haven't bought any new clothes lately.

He: I thought you exercised?

Me: I do, at least three times a week. I even increased the number of abdominal exercises I do and increased the weight on the machine to 100 lbs.

He: Oh? So why . . . ?

Me: Probably because I am 50 years old and have been on HIV meds that causes body shape changes for a dozen years.

He: Oh. Well, my pants tend to do that too.

Me: Yes, but you are in your 60s.

He: I'm only 60.

Me: Same difference.

He: Let's go look at the towels.

SIGH

Maybe I should get stretch pants and suspenders.

HUGS,

Mark

Track pants are my friend and co-conspirator. I've stopped shopping for clothes and avoid functions that require a belt. I've become one with my aids belly.

Maybe I should get stretch pants and suspenders.

HUGS,

Mark

I tried the suspenders last year. I wore them for doing chores in yard and stuff around the house. Results: they fall off the shoulders when maneuvering to do task that require stooping or bending forward. (no sexual connotation ::)). I had to fasten them together so one suspender would not slip off the shoulder. I discovered the world of elastic waist pants to be the winning idea. A friend to 'old and fat'. Heehee! They are so much easier to manipulate. Plus a nice square tail shirt covers the elastic just swell. I now own several elastic waist pants for those days when I choose to eat as much as I wish to shovel into my stomach.

Mark, the next person who asks me 'when are you due' is going to get squarely punched.  I'm still in denial though, thinking I'll somehow be able to wish the gut off.  I do have more pairs of stretch pants than what I used to have.  At least I can breathe when I wear them.

Mark,

I know exactly how you feel honey.   It seems my waistline has ballooned another 2 inches within the last week...don't know if it's bloat, true weight gain, or what....but I do know that I wore a pair of pants to work yesterday that physically made me sick.  My stomach hurt all night last night, after I finally got home and got out of them.

It's no fun to shop anymore, at least for me.  ***SIGH***

hugs,
Alan (who is today wearing a comfortable 33" waist khaki pant)

Hey Alan, I wear a 33, but for some reason I feel more comfortable in a 48. ;D

33 is not THAT bad. (I scrunched into a 31 recently, but it was a frightening experience).

I wear anywhere between a 34 to 36 in the waist, but, I'm also 51 going on 52, and stand 6'3 190LBS, and wear size 13D shoes, so, I don't think it's all that bad (my Belly is big too) and I still wear belts, I have to loosen them form time to time, but, not much I can do about it, so, I just live with it the best I can.............

Me too.  I go down the aisles very slow and sometimes stop and look at shit I'm not even considering buying to take a break.

After working out for a couple of years, I was literally just beaming to my housemate about finally reasonably wearing my new size 34 jeans, and I read this .......

Wah! 33-inches is considered large??? How depressing is that?

Man.............I hate the way lipo has changed the way fat is distributed on my body, but I think I'll still keep telling myself that my personal best ---34 jeans!--- is good enough under the circumstances. I'll just avoid taking my clothes off in front of anyone unless the lights are out.

I usually make it 4 aisles before my first 'rest' and it's the chips aisle, I can spend some time checking for 'sodium content' (I have suddenly developed high blood pressure) before moving on. :) then the clothing dept is in between groceries and toiletries, so I can look at a rack of pants/shirts, I can't even fit into  :-[  My last rest is standing in line...

It isn't so much the waist size, its the drop in waist.

My belly pushes it down in the front and I have no butt to hold it up in the back. The end result is my belt buckle ends up riding on my pubic bone.

Of course, after looking at Ahnold, I guess the old bod is just fine.
