Fave Diva Icons
« on: May 25, 2014, 06:43:02 pm »
Haven't seen this topic so thought I'd post it. Everyone has icons they love, for me it's Marilyn Monroe she's my favorite actress and I have a ton of collectibles and memorabilia of hers I just adore her. I love her movies she was fun & sexy but also very private & misunderstood I relate to her in a lot of ways I feel nobody ever got her. She could have a been a great dramatic actress if they'd given her a chance, she really wanted to be a serious actress but they top brass pigeon holed her & exploited her. For me she's a kindred spirit if you watch her movies there's a lovely gentle quality about her. It's charming. Her last full movie The Misfits is excellent she shows her dramatic acting ability. I also think she looked her best in her last couple of years. She would have gone on to be an even bigger star I think & maybe a bigger fashion icon. I always wondered how her style would hve changed if shed lived longer like say into the late 60s or 70s..Marilyn has alwas been my favorite diva she always makes me feel better when I watch her movies.

My more recent favorite diva is Tammy Faye. Growing up in the south I watched her tv show but really loved her in the Surreal Life. She practiced what she preached & said it was ok to be who you are. I wish more were like that even among the gays, there's a ton of backbiting & labelling & judgmental bullshit that's so wrong. Tammy loved her gays , bi, transgendered, & always reached out to them when other people always act like they're better than me.

I grew up having no role models & I always saw her as one. Sure her makeup was over the top but who the hell cares she did her thing & told others it's ok to do yours too. So I guess Marilyn & Tammy are my favorite icons. I have more but they're at the top of the list..

My fave living icon is probably Dolly Parton she's so sweet & from the south like me & does her own thing too. I hope to meet her one day.

Have you heard Dolly Parton's new album "Blue Smoke"? It is classic Dolly and has a lot of good songs. She is 68 years old, this is her 42nd studio album and it's the highest charting album of her career. Pretty impressive.

Marlene Dietrich and Judy Garland. So talented, so professional, so hard working.

Cher gets props for her talent, long career, common sense and sense of humor.
