 >:( The language used in the nature.com publication is disgraceful, to say the least.

Anyhow, nothing really new. A number of people stopped their HIV treatment and one person was confirmed they could maintain an undetectable viral load for 4 years.

Over the years in a few people we have seen long periods of maintaining viral suppressing before the VL rebounds, those people started treatment (very) soon after acquiring HIV but the learning is in understanding how/why this happens.

What they learned was the person had a very strong neutralizing antibody response throughout the follow-up period.

I second Jim’s last statement especially after reading the paper and comments from the scientists. To say the heady I’m surprised about their statement and the rather speculative implications they voice paired with exaggerated optimism. Best Matt
