creatinine clearance?
« on: February 06, 2018, 10:45:25 pm »
Just had my 6 monthly blood work done, all good, ud, creatinine normal range,  creatinine 1.13 normal range  (0.72.;1.18.) eGFR 71.5 but creatinine clearance is 60ml, is this OK? On truvada eff 200x 2. I have one kidney and would like some reassurance that its OK, or is this a low clearance caused by tdf?

Your eGFR appears to be good, so not sure why they are doing a Creatinine Clearance, as it, basically, is looking at the same thing:  how well your kidney's are working.

Was the Creat Clearance an estimated one or a measured one?  Do to the measured test, you would have needed to collect your urine for a 24 hr period.  If it was only estimated (which is done using the serum creatinine level and your age, weight and sex), I don't know how to interpret the fact that your eGFR is OK but estimated Creat Clearance is a bit low.

Probably need to talk with you doctor, because he/she has your complete medical picture to work off.

Of course, I don't think it is time to worry just yet, as a single test that is outside the reference range one time is rarely meaningful -- though, your doctor will know best!!!

Thank you Mike. I'm 56 and it was a blood test . Also urine normal.my urine output does seem to slow in the first few hrs of taking meds. But I drink loads of water and it improves throughout the day. Thanks

Hi Paul,

If you didn't collect a 24 hr urine sample, then they did an estimated Creat Clearance.  There is a blood test portion needed for either the measured or the estimated, as they need to know the serum creat level.

While your urine output could play a role in a lower result -- it would also, I am fairly certain, lower the eGFR (we didn't do that test back when I worked in clinical labs).

What these tests are really looking at is how well your kidney's glomeruli filter things (like creat.) out of the blood.

Mike
